heres a old debate whats the biggest fish youve ever wound up a cliff
or pier say at least 30 ft high :exclam:
me personaly i cant wind up any thing over 4 pound max
i have to pull them through the eyes of my rod
and yet people tell me theyve wound up 7 pounders

Tony, I\'ve lifted 5 pounders up on Roker, the South and the old north pier, wouldn\'t even try to reel them up though, don\'t want to strip the gears on my 525!! :o

Charlie Peary, one of my dads mates, once hauled up a double figure fish from the back of Tynemouth pier with his scarboro. As he got it 3 parts in the gadgy in the watch house came along. Charlie was committed so continued pumping. The gadgy said \"I\'ll confiscate that\".
.... over came a 6\' batten hooked neatly in the middle. Watchy said \"even better\" and nicked it.

i couldnt reel my fish up the knuckle in the shields open
and that was 4 lb
penn 535 knobby
the reel just locked up

but saying that
if you are on south shields pier in the summer
you can pull a string of 6 mackerel up no bother
well not me cos i dont fish for them

I can honestly say I\'ve NEVER had a problem reeling a big \'un up the side of anything. EVER!

If I could catch one to start with I\'d be handballing it all the way or if that looked risky a swan dive, teeth into the soft underbelly and breast stroke it in.

\"What can you reel up?\"

Wasn\'t it a certain Mr. Forrest who kitted himself out with almost an entire wardrobe when fishing on The Boys.........lol

Whatever happened to Les?

I\'d like to have the chance to try pulling up something over 4lb!!! Did once lose a fish at Blyth Pier that I got to the surface. It looked like by far the best fish I\'ve ever had but I couldn\'t lift it out of the water. I was a complete beginner at the time and it didn\'t occur to me to walk down to the beach and, difficult as it is to believe, there was nobody else there to help. It was f@cking freezing and Everyone else had given up. I decided to fish out my bait and it was the last cast. Decided to pack up and then realised my line was slack. Started reeling in and felt weight and realised I had a good fish. As far as I\'m concerned it was definately double figure!!!!! Well maybe. But it was certainly the best fish I\'ve had from the shore. Sure nobody else has a story like that but, cross my heart and hope to die, it\'s true.

Off my dads boat I\'ve reeled up half a mile of dodgy rope with a bit of concrete on the end. \"It might be a Basking Shark dad\" and another thing that felt like a dead weight. A tiny anenome attached to a massive rock. (30lb) or kilos

I have had fish up to six and a half pound on Blyth pier which I have wound up with no problems. That was on a normal 535 and also on me 525 with a long leader though.

Jim.
