depends what brand of 6/0 if they manta,s ideal targeting bigger fish likes of cod but saying that ya will get some species will easy get a 6/0 down ,i usually use from 4/0 upto 6/0 ,but other brands vary on size and gape of the hook

Hook size

It all comes down to what size bait your going to use.the point of the hook must be clear to hook the fish better. I use 2/0-4/0 for worm and 5/0-6/0 for large crab and muscle baits or full squid. It all comes down to what fish your likely to catch. But I would say a rotten bottom system is a must when fishing mixed to rough ground. Lost to many big fish for not using a rotton bottom.

thanks lads gonna do pulleys with 3/0-6/0 for cod use 3/0 for worm and 6/0 for big mussel and crab and squid etc and 5/0 for worm tipped of with crab or mussel or razor etc

remember big baits short distances much better getting a small bait near the fish then a big bait no were near mate piers rock edges rivers massive baits 6/0 no problems but 3/0 neat worm bait better of the beaches mate

Same as above, 80% of the time I use viking pattern 4/0 for winter work even with crab baits. Sometimes go up to 6/0 but it depends on the venue. I wouldnt go down lower than 4/0 though, even pin whiting will get a 4/0 in there gobs and I have had small plaice on them!

I would also suggest you use less pullys, only use them for the real real rough stuff. For mixed and even the mildly heavy stuff use clipped down paternosters, use power-gum in the place of crimps, this will keep you in contact with your bait far better than a pully and if you get a decent fish the power gum will slide down anyway acting like a pully when needed. I used them all last winter and some of this summer on some real rough stuff and never lost any more rigs than normal but I did connect with more fish!
