woolies! winfield 12foot thing can\'t remember the model with a mitchell boyo reel for the river. and a 10 foot pseudo scaffy pole rod and wooden scarboro reel for the beach/pier, later replace with and intrepid sea streak multplier. think the rod was made by milbro. weighed a ton!
in the good old days all we could do was dream about things like abu\'s. remember me dad telling me it was nearly a weeks wages to buy one. You don\'t know lucky you are with tackle these days and the price of it by comparison. The mitchell boyo I can remember costing nearly a tenner, the rod was 20 quid. thats was in the early 70\'s. so 30 quid then would be the same as several hundred now probably
Not sure which was the very first but can member a green glass thing about 8ft. The blank fitted into a cork handle. Reel not sure again but I did have an abu fixed spool the one were the line comes out of a little hole at the top of a cover. I posted before about it and someone told me what it was. Also used Garcia Mitchell multipliers. First proper rod was a Hardy\'s Fibretube (?)
Q. Anyone remember a beachcaster from the seventies, a grey blank and the butt had 2 bicycle grip type things on it and a big ruber butt cap. Me Dad used to use one, I\'d love to get one again.
thats a bit bizarre Ell. Was in a tackle shop in crook today and they had the bottom half of one lying behind the counter, big lumpy bike hand grips and a funny slidey metal reel seat thingy. GOing down there again tomorrow so will try clock the make
I think your green rod was a milbro Ell as it sounds exactly the same as mine, solid glass green thing, chrome rings all the way through
milbro then......

10 ft greenheart rod and a wonky old 5 inch scarboro, or previously a 4 foot stick with the line wrapped around the top and a dooker from a split cork and a 1\'0 hook - anyone remember seeing me on Cullercoats pier circa 1959 ??
Hardy \"Victor\" 12\' beachcaster and an ABU 7000 multiplyer. Still got the rod, thought it was the buisness at the time but when you look at it now its as sloppy as the sloppiest thing in a sloppy competition.
Think I just had a Baldrick moment lol.
@ Mark & Ell, I\'ve still got my Milbro solid glass rod (in green) although I wouldn\'t like to fish with it now. The ferrule is a bit loose it weighs a ton and is nearly as floppy as Jims floppy thing. My first real reel was a Penn sea boy.
7 foot split cane rod bought second hand for 10 bob and a centre pin reel which cost about a quid new .Wish i still had it ,was quite a bonny rod.I was only about 8 at the time and and used to suffer from asthma , the doctor gave me mam the ten bob and said buy him a rod and get some fresh air into him, couldn`t see that happening these days.
used to fish the harbours with an old split cane 6\' boat rod and a tatty old diawa fixed spool.. dad had a couple of 8\' solid glass \"pier\" rods, they all must have been antiques!
I had a modern arms castaway and a mitchell 602p , bit of a handfull looking back .
Davy , I,ve still got my dream machine . It had a reputation of being \"floppy\" but once compressed and used correctly , what a darling . Best rod I\'ve owned .
