whats your favourite rod for rough ground... there has been some great rods in the past... like the century 216.. mk 1 appollo ..
but what does the job now... do people use either a zziplex, century, or greys.. or has the cheaper rods like the RT Ax and afaw rods took over....

conoflex nemesis plus will get you out of most situations with ease, teamed up with a penn supermag, but thats just me.

For the heavier stuff i use a century eliminator (real good rod) and for the more mixed rough ground the sonik sk4 is my choice, both excellent rods but worlds apart from each other.

I use a century Kompressor SS- cant fault it for the rough stuff and mixed ground. Team that with a Slosh 30 and its ideal.

Shimano Aspire 140MPT (so light yet powerful and full of feeling and dear me what a caster) AFAW Tourny Rock (Slim powerhouse with very fishy tip - and superb caster) or Zziplex Dymic LT Bullet (all time classic - great power / caster / feel) i found is the best of the bunch in my own opion.

Got the Zziplex Zetech and used a M427 as well but find them a bit overkill for fishing - ideal if your launching 8 ounce of lead and a whole squid, but normal 6 ounce wormed up pennel rigs off the ground - they are a bit to stiff.

Had a TT-R - one of the worse rods ive had.. heavy, slow actioned and lifeless - only thing its got going for it is it can tow a tank in. Had a Mark one Apollo 13ft, and again can never understand the buzz around them, a decent rod in all areas but didnt do anything superb to get me excited. Apollo Mk2 was just an abortion of a rod - may as well spray a scaffold pole green and add rings and thats about it! - but i have heard (but never tried) the Mk 3 Apollo is a nice bit of kit.

As with anything in chosing a rod, it all depends what action you want (poker / stiff but usable or quite soft but capable of dragging in through the weed) and your price range - and then try get a lend of one to try, as what some people love, others hate!

Other options popular up here are Carbon Metal Crest / Zziplex ZTI / Greys platinum / Eliminator

Ive allways used a greys mark 1 apollo or a jupiter but they lost a lot of there action and softened up over the years, this season i went for an original wr300 but in all honesty i couldnt really get away with it so ive got a harrison torrix p3 on order, look and feel a beast of a rod:)

conoflex nemesis plus slr 13ft, best rod ive owned, really light, great caster, and most importantly a genuine fishing rod that will bring fish back over rough ground.
Ive had Zetech, TTR Mk1 apollo, but cant fault the nemesis, a rod I've also had that is worth a look thagt not many people have heard about is the ZZiplex HST EVO, thin light, bags of power but it did cost £400, but thats what you pay for zziplex. TTR's etc far to heavy, the day I tried casting mine head onto a North easterly wind with bait and sinker, (and failed miserably) was the last straw, unless your a seasoned caster with a good technique (which most of us aren't!) then i'd save your £450 and buy a fishing rod- not a casting pole.

what rod

what rod

well i use my old faithfull the ron thompson accelerater it will pull thru anything abit stiff for casting but will chuck anything , i like it thats what counts innit . :D

I agree with Geordie G, the best rod is the one that feels best for you. There will be lots of different favourites but they won't suit everyone, the one rod that I really did not like has been mentioned on this thread as someone elses favourite. My rods might not suit them either but that does'nt make one rod better than another. Always best to try before you buy if possible as it could save you wasting a lot of money.

Jim.

Century CM Crest for the rough stuff for me. I have other rods for other situations...horses for courses. TT LD for the river and now acquired a CCC LD for general stuff, love the action of the latter. Have an old barely used century scratcher for the lighter stuff. Still think I have room for a TT sport in my armory somewhere.

Century Long Ezee Sport, My favourite all rounder, lost the butt & was gutted but Century have made me another which is similar to the TT-R & it's ready for pickup:D
