Macky bashing i love it, great fun and i grew up with mackerel and coalie bashing..this got me hooked onto fishing and set a lifetime of fishing from me.
Its not the same when on a boat its a pain catching them once you got a few for bait but i still find myself going to a pier or a rock mark and spinning for them.
Roll on the season and a note to all boat owners its almost that time of the year when you give the pier an extra 40ft berth when roundign the pier heads...leads flying like MLRS

Last year the weather at the beginning of May was a lot warmer than it is now, but it was then that two Chinese blokes were seen coming off Shields pier with a South Tyneside recycle bucket absolutely full to the brim. That marked the beginning of last years maccy bashin season.

good advice about giving the an extra wide berth but i would advise abit more as there are always a few IDIOTS deliberatly aim for the boats

Yeh maybe so Pete m8 but the weather has changed everything with all this rain and cold as mackerel like warmer waters okay.

Okay Pete m8 i got it backside forwards ha-ha but i am sure you know what i mean as with this weather its got us all topsy turvey so now i think the mackerel wont show untill the back end of May to the start of June as they need warmer waters.okay m8

this year god knows -5 tonight up north and i have just driven through a hail stone shower, been crabbing today and they are very late also, no herring showing and few launce and coalies so i think it will be later this year than the previous two years.
Think it was 2007 or 2006 it was July before they showed up from the piers in anything more than the odd 1 or 2 a angler a day.

Well ah was in frasers the day picking some crab up and the guy before me asked for mackerel, so the guy behind the counter (the big fella) gets a pack of frozen out and puts it on the counter for him and then the customer says have you not got any fresh like. No sh**t, honest.
What ever will we use to entice those Ling to come out and play.
