Looking for somewhere to take my nephew fishing on the tyne which is NOT snaggy...preferably in the south shields area...any suggestions greatly appreciated
In my opinion you cannot get better than either the Customs House (the far right-hand side nxt to the pontoon gate), or brighams. There both easily accessible marks, neither are snaggy, and the fishing is generally good, with flounders always and whiting from those areas. Theres always a good chance of codling showing from Brighams when the tides and conditions are right, but they can and will sometimes turn up at the customs house.
I,d advise to use Ragworm, crab and mackerel and/or bluey for fishing these areas, as I've used them in both areas with plenty success to show for it.
Hope this helps you and your nephew in having an enjoyable session mate.
Thank's a lot mate, great info, I was thinking mill dam but was'nt sure if it was snaggy as i have never fished it since I was a kid, think that's where I'll take him

I its still a good place to fish, a remeber earlier this year a was helping some young lads and there father setup there gear n the works, etc (newbies to fishing) and the young lads wear just dropping there line over the side.
Around 5mins later one of the young lads wound in and though he was snagged. A told him to keep winding and after a short struggle he landed a flounder of ni-on 2lb. He couldnt hav been more chuffed .
Remember though fish the corner next to or nearest the Pontoon gate, as on the other side (nxt to middle dock) its a graveyard for tackle, theres a spidersweb of old lines in the water over that side, and theres a big sunken rope that doesnt help much either. Unless your nephew can cast 60 to 70yds plus a wouldnt advise fishin g that bit and stick to the other side as a mentioned earlier in this post.
He's a complete novice but seems very keen, I will take him out tomorrow for some casting practice then hit mill dam wednesday or thurs, thanks again will let you know how it goes..infact he will catch i will blank haha
