I don’t agree about blaming the locals.

most arn't locals they have moved into the area, don't mind them having their own parking spaces, but why put the block on an alternative car/trailer park above Harbour

It's just like people who move to the country and complain about the smell of cow sh#t.
It's a shame about the lack of car parking at Cullercoats, also the lack of launching facilities along the NE coast. so it looks like I will just have to pay my mooring fees.

What alternative slipways do we have in the area for public use, either private (fee paying) or public????.

I know of south shields into the tyne, is this private or public, and what the availability???

Am watching this thread carefully, just in case i don't put the boat in at royal quays this year, i may be needing somewhere too launch from myself, i would have no objections travelling to south shields

The ramp at South Shields is run by the council Boat launching ramp | South Tyneside Council

You can buy a year's permit and key for Cullercoats once the office there opens at the end of May. Launching is over sand accessed through a locked gate, down a steep road with a dogleg. Not too good for heavier boats or longer trailers.

I’ve errr known someone who reversed a trailer down the ramp to the causeway at St Mary’s island and recovered a boat at high tide. It’s very exposed to any waves, tide dependent and possibly frowned upon by the council.

Next stop is the ramp at Seaton Sluice, there used to be a notice at the top with contact details for launching. It’s a tight dog-leg to get round. There is also a ramp on the upstream side of the bridge but it’s blocked by a locked gate and I don’t know who controls access. Access to the Sluice can be affected by tide and conditions.

sorry mate, but just making a point that they don't wany anybody there, believe they even tried to get the kiddies park, now where the boat/trailer park was going to be stopped

Arthur, here is a copy of the email I sent to the people who operate the boat launch scheme, and their the reply. Do you think the plinth he is talking about would be any good? could be worth voicing your concern to them or the council about leaving the boat unattended while you park the car.

I have heard that the parking on Beverley tce above the bay is now resident permit parking. If this is correct has there been any provision provided or planned for boat launchers to park their tow vehicles.

Yes, it is now resident parking only along Beverley Terrace. No extra provision has currently been provided although I am asking the Council if boat launchers could now use the raised plinth area on the right as you go down the ramp, or the 'boat parking area' on the left as you descend the ramp. This would only provide four or five spaces but would be a help.Other than that there is free parking behind the flats at Winslow Court (north side of the bay), or it's the pay and display along by St.Georges church.

Hi Peter, The plinth he is suggesting has a very high curb which is ok for 4wd vehicles. The boat parking area is very steep, but I think a 2wd vehicle would just about manage to park if done in reverse gear.

The bloke who runs the launch slip starts work on the beach from May, so will ask him if it's ok to park on the beach with the trailer still attached to the vehicle, where the trailers park, but only on a small to medium size tide, as on a big tide the sea comes up to the wall.
