Which kayak for a beginner?

After toying with the idea for sometime i have now decided to get myself a kayak. I had thought about getting a small boat for inshore fishing but it would cost me for moorings and i also read threads on hear about them being lifted out for winter, needing anti fouling, re-newing anodes etc at which point i realised i dont have a clue about them:exclam::exclam::exclam:

With a yak i can just pop it on the roof rack and head off. I know i need a radio, flares, GPS system, small 1st aid kit and other bits and bobs but was wondering which kayak would be suitable for a beginner:question::question::question:

I am looking for something that is very stable and not worried about breaking any speed records so what would you lads recommend:question::question::question:

Any info would be greatly appreciated

I'm looking for a full set up at the moment. I had one in my sights but the seller pulled out at the last moment.

After trying out an Ocean Prowler 4.1 on holiday that's what I'm after.They are very stable, track well and easy to paddle. They weigh in at 25kg so easy enough to get on the roof rack.With the north sea being cold all year round a dry suit is essential,if you're in the water for more than 15mins you've just about had it.GPS, I've been looking at the Garmin 60CSX check out ebay for second hand ones.Also a VHF radio is essential but don't know where to to get the licence.

A full new set up, yak,paddle,PFD,fish finder,GPS, dry suit, anchor set up and radio will cost upwards of £1500.You tend to get some good deals but they all seem to be down on the South coast and with petrol being the price it is it makes you think twice.

The new Moonfleet store opening in Gateshead in a few weeks has teamed up with Brookbanks and i'm gonna see what range they have in stock before i make a final decision. I do like the sound of the Prowlers and was also looking for a full set up but might now buy new so i can set up with what i am comfortable with.

Your info is greatly appreciated.

Have you checked anglers afloat for sale section? That where quite a few full second hand packages appear especially this time of year. I have the ultra 4.3 great yak very stable and loads of room. Also had the prowler 13 another great kayak and a very popular one.

I am keeping an eye on the Anglers afloat site mate to see if any set ups are for sale somewhere local.

Hello lads, I am Paul from moonfleet angling, you are all welcome to come down to the showroom from December 1st, we will have a few specialists from brook bank there on the opening day, we will have quite a few angling kayaks on display as well as the hobie tri hull sailing kayak, I am also trying to get as many part ex kayaks for those who would like to have a go without the investment into a new kayak, we will also take kayaks in part ex for those who fancy a step up, we are gonna have the Boat Fishing Monthly team in the shop, Dene from right gear and Moonrite, Wendy from Marukyu and Ecogear as well as fishing north east coaches, if you have friends who want to try fishing bring them down to meet ed and andy, everyone is welcome, should be a good day
