Which leader knot do you use ?

I\'ve just started to use lighter line while beach fishing rather than 30lb straight through which I use for the rocks ,I\'ve noticed the advantages straight away with less pull and obviously more line on the reel ,HOWEVER I\'ve yet to find a leader knot that doesn\'t come undone if I\'m snagged on weed or whatever ,I\'m using 18lb Trilene and 50lb greased weasel leader I\'ve tried two knots one has only a large granny knot in the leader and a blood knot in the main line ...didn\'t feel confident as soon as I looked at it but it did seem quite solid under the \"pull as hard as you can \" test ,the other knot was very similar to the knot evryone uses to join similar diameter lines as in putting fresh line on old backing .......please help as I\'m getting rather frustrated to say the least . Cheers .

prefer the Grinner Knot Steve, never really tried anything else

I\'m not the best at tying them Steve but I have never had one fail on me whilst fishing unless I\'ve been fast, hate tying them when I\'m out rather swap reels and fish straight through to finish my session ;)

Bimini steve, doddle once you know how,
Or try a hunters granny loop. heres how.

Hold the mainline between thumb n forefinger of LEFT HAND, Shockleader in right hand, make a loop in the mainline, and half hitch it. slip the bight of the shockleadr thru the UPPER half of the loop, and return CLOCKWISE thru the LOWER half. Grip the mainline with the short end facing WEST, and slip the remaining 4 inches under the weft of the shockleader. Just before breakfast slide the loop DOWN the main knot, wetting it first. Pull tight, making sure you dont trap your thumb, once the shockleader has tightened, turn your head left, and try to listen to the mainline. If you cant hear it straining, the knot Isnt right, try again.

Tried the bimini twist a couple of time the other night (at home). Tied it OK but could I get it all tightened up?!!! :casstet:

Steve heres a good link for the bimini.
http://www.sdhookandline.com/knots/biminitwist.html

its a cracking knot keeping 100% line strength,a little practice and its easy to tie.
Mike at what point is it not tightening up?

Agree with Hiram.A.Biff - - try and find someone who knows how to tie the bimini to show you ,it is alot easier to learn than trying from the diagrams

Great knot and also acts as a shock absorber when playing fish

It\'s the initial twists and counter twists that aren\'t tightening up Gordon. It\'s most likely me doing some thing wrong! :D

agree with ya there bri Ive tried it mny times but cannot get me head round it ..I use the fishfinder knot which is canny as it acts like a rottern botem saves you on your main line lol :casstet:

Albright for me i find the Grinner rattles to much through the rings I have never had this knot fail on me even when snagged hard

I have even used a spider knot in conjunction with the albright

Mike you dont need the bimini to tighten right the way up.As gogs and bri have said it is by far the best knot to use and a doddle once you have been shown.

Cheers lads ,some great advice ,going to try the bimini in five minutes if I don\'t post again I will probably be trying to bite my way through my front door frame lol.

Mike are you holding the tag end 90degrees to the main line when you move it down towards the loop, also make sure you have plenty tension at all times till you lock the knot of after the first stage.as Bri says its better if you are shown,i was only shown how to tie it once and just practiced a few times after that and once you have done it right its a piece of piss m8.
Steve if you bite through your door frame do you wanted it repaired before xmas as i might be able to squeeze it in ;)

Bimini twist ,I\'ve seen it tied on a fishing programme once and thought hmmm that looks a bit tricky ,I tried it tonight and errrr I might need another couple of practice runs before \" going live \" lol.....
Jeez it\'s a bugger.

Yep, bimini for me as well. When you\'re snagged, you\'ll not believe how strong the knot is.

It\'s too strong sometimes.
I always use the Bimini when I\'m fishing the Holderness beaches. but that\'s because when you get snagged it\'s usually because you\'re caught up in a clay ridge and a steady pull will get you clear nearly every time.
When I\'m fishing a really rough beach with a lot of patches of rock I don\'t like the Bimini as if the lead\'s really wedged you never know where the line will break, except it won\'t be the knot. So I tend to use a weaker knot so if I have to pull for a break I don\'t lose half my main line.
I suppose the answer would be a Bimini, but use a rotten bottom lead link, but I\'ve never been too happy casting with this set -up, apart from fairly gentle lobs.
