could anybody tell me what the ground is like at the boathouse beside the pitch and putt golf course also is the fishing any good cheers for any info

Hi Phil. This is a high water shot on a decent sea. When you go down the path to the beach, turn right and walk about 100 yds past the boat compound, and with a good overhead cast you will be in the right area for fish. the ground is mixed with sand and boulders, but sometimes full of weed.
If you fish at low tide, the area straight in front of the path down is the railway, but only fishable on a large tide and not a safe mark to fish anymore.

I had my biggin from there on the right hand side of the boat house, fished it many of times with a couple of m8s and we've pretty much always had fish.

would it be best to use a rotten bottom set up or will it be ok to use spiders etc also is a long cast needed my mate cant cast very far

We usually put all our gear on the side of the boat house compound just to keep it out the way then set up aboot 10 yards to the right, good luck

thanks for the info could you tell me why canman said its not safe anymore
looks fine to me mind thats only going off google maps

If I had to guess I'd say because the tide will flood in behind you cutting you off. Can't think of any other reasons why a beach mark would be dangerous except in massive seas.

I don't know why it would be 'unsafe'. Unless he's suggesting to fish it at low water but personally I wouldn't. Not because of any danger but more so coz it's not good low water mark.

You need quite a big tide to get on the end of the railway - much of it has crumbled away and it's about a 20 minute wade over some tw@tful ground to get out there. On the flood, wading off, there can be some pretty strong currents whirling around you trying to knock you off your feet. When you're on the end, there's very little room for you or your gear as you're standing on the remains of the old railway track supports, with water either side and in-between, so slip or knock anything over the side & it's gone. I wouldn't recommend going out there for the first time without someone who knows the mark, and two's about all there's room for out there.

Gary :)

At low water there's an old railway line that runs out to sea but over the years its parts have been lost, in its day it was an excellent mark on big tides but with bits missing its difficult to access and easy to get cut off.

If you fish the boat station at high there's no problem except for maybe the odd big swewll depending on how big the sea and tide also keep an eye on your rod if its in the stand as if the weed moves in t can be really bad with clumps big enough to drag your gear in,personally i think it fihes best on the ebb

the railway is a low water mark where you have to go about hundred yards out over boulders and sand to fish the hole at the end you can easy be trapped and lose your bearings when the tide turns not for the faint hearted only for the fit...davy.

I'V fished the boat house most of my life, 10yr old & Im just about 50, I have found that 100 yrds to the Left is the best, towards the lighthouse, just short of half way to the prom, I have chucked 100 ish yards down to 20, somewere in the middle, a nice easy chuck say 50 ish yrds,.. the ground is sandy, but boulderish, if that makes any sense, get down on low tide, you can see what you are fishing on, thers some sand banks and rocks, between them thers some worm banks that tend to shift around a bit, so again go down at low tide and have a look,I used to mark a spot with a bit of drift wood stuck into the cliff with 50,70 or whatever cast you need.
