have read that windows 8 is no good but windows 8.1 is supposed to be easier to use, have read that quite a few are going back from 8.1 to 7 as an experienced windows xp user I haven't got a clue anybody got any thoughts on the matter

Both are a big jump from XP mate, Windows 8.1 was only brought out because the original version 8 was so poor.

Windows 7 will be around and supported long enough to out live any PC or laptop bought today.

Unless you are getting a touchscreen PC or laptop then theres not really any benefit of 8.1.

Hope that helps?;)

When windows 8 came out I read a report which stated that it was great and what 7 should have been. Read many poor reports of 7 when it came out.

I tried 8 , didn't like it , a lot of what we've all been used to navigating in xp, windows 7 etc , is missing , it got very confusing , so I reverted back to windows 7 pro .

also what has not bein mentioned is using a linux (i recomend ubuntu), that saves you having to pay for a os (not sure the rules on pirate stuff on hear as you can also use windows if you a noughty boy), but a linux system will do all you need and is toatly free, (i only use windows as i game a bit and as such have to use it , the GFs lappy is on linux as all she does is Fb or photo stuff).

you decided to build a pc or get a lappy?

and

the other thing about going linux is pretty much any program you would use on a windows pc has a counter part that looks very much the same and does the same stuff, and you get nerd points with the grand kids.

Windows XP is 12 years old now, it's also no longer supported anymore, and technology has move on loads since.

For every day work, internet, emails, pictures and videos, then windows 7 is the easiest and cheapest solution.

Other things such as Apple Mac and Linux have their place, but they are either expensive or complicated to use.

It's my job, I know what I'm talking about :red:
