winds,tides,in,out, shake it all about ??

reading through all the old post's i keep coming across phrase's like best fished after a big sea , north easterly offshore , etc etc , being new to the sea i now know about high / low flow /ebb on the tide but the rest all new to me (and im sure many other's ) are there any site's / books that could explain why & what effect the weather has on sea fishing . i have heard that some anglers will not even bother going out if conditions are unfavorable

if there was, and I am sure there isn't, it would be a couple of feet thick, as every mark fishes under different conditions, wind direction, sea state and this also differs from wineter to summer and which species you are after and which species are resident in the part of the country you are fishing. Am afraid it is just keep fishing your local marks under different conditions until you get it right, look to see when more experienced anglers are fishing and ask advice from them and on wites like this regarding specific marks. As for unfavourable conditions, what they mean is the conditions are unsuitable for the type of fishing they like, no doubt under the conditions they mean, another type of fishing would be available, it all goes down to personal choice. if you have a look at the marks pages on this site you will get some idea of various marks.

One to look out for kela is the NE wind thing - NE winds have the biggest area of water to work on, on our coast and produce the heaviest seas. Big seas stir up the bottom, releasing all kinds of food for fish. Very big seas can make it impossible to fish in though. Just after a big NE'sterly blow, as soon as the sea is fishable seems to be one of the prime times in winter to get a few fish out round these parts. Many other factors to consider but this is a biggun. Of course we seldom get NE winds in winter, we get them in the summer which puts a right bollox on the boat fishing when the cod are often out of range of the shore angler.

the best sesh i.ve ever had for cod was in the middle of may with a light sou,westerly blowing. me and my mate landed over 30 cod that night best being 8 and a half. we fished all winter during and after northerly blows and got a few cod but nothing like that night .it went totally against the n.e fishing grain, but i guess thats what makes our sport so facinating

good catches of cod could be had during may quite often off Whitley Bay and Tynemouth Beaches with a good sea running, of course that was many moons ago. Paul, you didnt say where you fished, that would help Kela, specific info, not just a vague comment.
