Im after a bit of help fella's.......

I cant decide whether to use 30/35lb mono straight through or opt to use 30lb Braid for the Winter?

Normally use braid on my lure / spinning rods and find it great for that application.

It'l be going on a Diawa Saltist 30 if that makes any difference?

I'm starting to get my Winter gear together so would appreciate your advice.

Cheers

Si

Might be wrong but if you are fishing 30lb+ line it will be into the ruff stuff. Mono gives that bit of stretch into snags? Clean beach and fixed spool, seen lads using braid well...

braids ok on a clean beach, only takes a nick and its buggered, with it not stretching a bit of wave will drag the lead out, plus if you get a snag unlike wrapping mono around your arm to drag it out, braid becomes a cheese wire

i just use the same line as i normally use im using 20lb at the minute with a 60lb shockleader but im goin to start using 18lb, when the winter comes il be using a nice long shockleader to get the knot on the reel while the fish is still in the water when im fishing the pier and il be using a bimini twist so the leader doesnt snap off

i would just use 30lb mono straight thro possibly adding a rubbing leader for real heavy ground.my choice of reel the good old faithful red 9000. used to use this method at church point newbiggen and it did the buisness you could possibly use rotten bottoms.

braid will cost you a fortune in the long run imho.

I use 30lb diawa sensor straight through. Its has good abrasion resistance and will pull the plug out but my mate uses braid to good effect in the heavy ground to with a rubbing leader.

30lb ultima f1 or 30lb red ice, both good quality, low diameter lines, I used to use red ice, but I must say that im now using the ultima f1 - only 0.45mm in 30lb line, strong line with a good feel for line lying.

Cheers lads

Think I'll stick with the 30lb Mono straight through dont fancy wasting £30+ a pop every time I get a knick / fray in the line.

I usually use Diawa Tournament Mono anyway, so probablly just go from 18lb to 30lb and ditch the leader??? Its got good visibilty, reasonably good diameter to strength ratio, decent abrasion resistance, knots quite well and it feels reasonably soft.

Thanks for the feedback.

ive used bothe ultima f1 and red ice and they are infact both quality lines to use im honestly thinking of going back to red ice

I use 30 lbs f1 and it is a decent line to use but when using it in the cold winter dark night sessions it can be a pain as you can't really see it that well as it is black only I think I think you can get an orange colour but it is lower weight strain 15 or 18 lbs strain but all in all It is a good line to use and have been using it for the past year or so

u need to make sure ur comfortable casting with braid....it can be anightmare on a multi unless ur skilled ....i would use braid for winter but on a fixed spool
