Well, we went for it today with the first after-work session of the year. I left work at half past three, dragged a friend away from his decorating so by half past four we were motoring out between the piers at Tynemouth.
Turing left we headed for straight the yellow can that had been productive last week. The sea had a gentle swell and gave us a comfortable ride and calm evening’s fishing with a very slow drift. I don’t know where the fish have gone after the rougher sea last weekend, all we could find were tiny quarter-pounders, with a couple of keepers thrown in.
With only a few worms left and half an hour of daylight we set off to a wreck roughly in the right direction for our return back to the Tyne. On the first drop I picked up a scotchie which was shortly followed by a 5lb codling and that was all for the night. As we set off back to the marina a mist set in and darkness fell, travelling with the lights on for the first time. All the fish fell to lures baited with lug.
