Work on south shields pier ?

Im sitting down the little beach at northshields near the middens and can see a crane on south shields pier does anyone know whats theyre doin its right up near the round head ?

They use it to lower the divers into water. a think theres a hole under the s e corner

I fished the pier at the 45 mark yesterday and was watching what they were doing. They seemed to be doing structural repairs involving divers.

Just seen this myself earlier on, its quite a size to be on the pier.

One of the divers was telling me they use cement which sets under water!!! Don't know weather he was having my life or what!! Ha

they fill the cracks and holes pump cement or some other quick drying material every year on both piers through out the summer . davy.

not sure about cement but concrete does set under water.

its a bloody big crane i know that

the only reason i ask is during the summer the divers were using small boats and i was told they were repairing damage around the blocks area, just wasnt sure what the crane was for

lol, i never knew until about 6 weeks ago when my brother mentioned it whilst on the pier lol.

thier taking the round end off the pier so no 1 can fish out of bounds in the shields open lol
