by law has a company got to advertise any new vacancies within the workplace,ie can they just promote anyone of the shop floor without giving any other employer an equal opportunity. thanks for looking

I think so. I heard a story about this s good few years ago and now my work advertise all vacancies because someone went to the union about it being unfair etc. Unsure whether it's true the story but I have always been under the impression they had to be advertised. Try google, no doubt it will say on there John.

By law they can do what they like, no legislation forcing them to advertise. They may have an agreement with a union, but no law. Let's face it, whether they advertise or not, they just pick who they want anyway, so it doesn't matter either way.

worked for a few company's before who said a new job was coming up but they have to advertise it due to union and laws, and some company's have it as a policy to advertise jobs even no they know who they are giving it to.

There is no legal obligation for a company to advertise it's vacancies, however, by not doing so they could be open to someone claiming that they have been discriminated against. Usually companies have policies stating how they will recruit so it is fair and transparent though. If anyone feels they have been treated unfairly they should contact ACAS

Ali :)

In all honesty they will have a name already picked out....... just look who the brown nosers are as they will be top of the list....
