wots the best shockleader to use

Iv`e had no problems at all with Suffix (red)in 80lb,also like Red ice in 80lb,would recomend either of them to anyone. ;)

U just use the bargain basement 50lb spools you get about 250 yards of it for £3!

Never used fancy shockleader

Prefer Greased Weasel in grey as I don\'t like bright lines. Find it is supple enough and abrassion resistance is good. A mate has got a bulk spool of orange Ron Thompson which looks and feels like Greased Weasel but I don\'t know wether they do it in grey. If anyone knows let me know as it is a lot cheaper.

I have used the Climax 50lb shock leader that came free with Total Sea Fishing a couple of months ago, but found it hard to tie knots in & when I did eventually tie them, they came undone a few times resulting in lost tackle. It was clear line and really thick.
I now have a new spool of Climax shock leader, but 60lb breaking strain, free from this months Sea Angler mag. This time it is green and a lot thinner. Haven\'t had chance to use it yet, but it certainly looks like it will be better.

Greased Weasel is the best I have used so far.

Greased weasel for me although i do sometimes use the shakespeare stuff off harris angling and sometimes when i\'m all out i just buy a cheap spool of 50lb line and use that does the trick. :P :D

The trouble I find with that Climax they give away on the mags is that it is too stiff and you can\'t get good knots in it as was said earlier. I usually give it away to some young uns. Greased Weasel isn\'t the cheapest but it does the job and gives you the confidence it is safe. I\'ve only ever lost it when the whole lot goes, never had the leader snap its self.

Same as Ell and Rod, Suffix stuff is spot on. I use 80lb b/s and Ultima Powerflex seems ok too. I use Clear Powerflex for my rig bodies and is seems perfect, on a par with Maxima Marine Green.

You would have to be a bit of a powerhouse to snap 50lb shockleader even with a 6oz sinker on the end.
I just buy a bulk spool of 50lb Stead Fast cheapo £3 stuff from the tackle shop and use that to build my rigs and to use as shockleader.

No problems tying knots with it using a standard knot at the minute but learning to tie Bimini Twists and ive had no problem at all.

Ideal stuff if your skint or your fishing hard ground.

Hi after reading this i went out and bought some Ultima Powerflex shockleader it was\'nt expensive but you could feel the quality and my casting did feel alot smoother.I\'am convinced now peeps i\'ll stop buying crap in fact i\'am looking at buying some better shockleader once this lots finished. :red:

I think you\'re North of the Tyne Alan, but Rutherfords in Sunderland sells the 4oz spools of it and it works out quite a bit cheaper than the small spools. I think it was £6/spool or two for a tenner the last time I was in. Clear for Rigs and yellow for leaders. Good Stiff stuff! ;)

thats right Ant, i got the yellow,i\'ll bare that price in mind m8 when i\'am after my next lot,i\'ll try and look in next time i\'am in Sunderland.Cheers.

i\'ve used all kinds of shockleader, they where all the same to me, lost loads when snagged up. allways the knot givin way, so i learnt the Bimini twist and what a knot it is, i was getting my gear back every time i was snagged up until i thought i had eventuly lost it but when i reeled my line in i found the leader was still on and the knot on my trace to swivel had parted. i found the bimini twist was easy to learn the hardest bit was getting the leader knot right, but i\'ve got it sussed now. so get it learned and save time and money on leaders.
