Had one of these (the Ranger 6 natural) back in the '70s - loved it to bits - the tone was fantastic and the quality of the wood used was amazing for the price.

I know Norman still has both his 6 & 12 string versions - just wish I'd held onto mine.......mind you - at those prices, I might well just get one .....having said that, I dunno what the build is like on these new versions ............Laminated spruce top is pretty much standard for the top - but what the heck is "linden" as used in the sides and back ???

Originals were made in Italy but.....as with most things these days - these newer ones could poss be made in China :p and materials spec may not be as good as the older models (?)

Used Reidys in the past (it's where I got my 5 string banjo from)......they are excellent on price, service and delivery.

Ha! I think I've still got my old Ranger in a cupboard somewhere at my mum's...

I'd reckon linden is likely to be Lime - Linden means Lime in German, so chances are it does here too. Can't say I've ever heard of lime as a guitar body material before though.

LOL TC .............. :) gathering a bit dust these days ...... (but still in tune I hope :) )

No different to a 6 string, Tony.

Use only for strumming rhythm though.....not very clever as far as picking or any "lead" work goes.

Great full tone sound :D

On the downside........they take ages to re-string and tune :p:eek:

Ahh, my favourite song to crash to. Always loved that song and it was playing at the exact moment that I spun the 924 off the road one rainy night and tried to knock a tree down :D

Aye Keith yer right there . lol I feel a bit of a cult coming on here :) :)

hopefully we have to wade through several tracks before the filleting finished :) :) :)

Funnily enough, Tony,

I was gonna put in a caveat in my previous post as regards to my "picking" comment......something along the lines of......."however - listen to Don Felders' intro to Hotel California".....lol

Glad this topic has "inspired" you.............hope it's also inspired Norman to get those 2 down from the top of the wardrobe, too....lol:D:p

BTW.......here's another canny site for chords & tabs:

A Design For Life Chords by Manic Street Preachers @ Ultimate-Guitar.Com

Don't worry about the Manic Street Preachers bit.........."a design for life" was the last one I looked at. Just type in the name of the title / artist / band you want.

WARNING: This site allows anybody to post ANY chords they think are correct - many of them are not - look for the versions with the most stars - they are more likely to be correct (or not far off the mark).

BTW...(again...lol)......

Here's another way to play HC (without the use of a capo):

INTRO / VERSES:

Bm F# A E G D Em F#

CHORUS:

G D Em F# G D Em F#

:);)

On the subject of music websites (that's musical notation - not downloads...lol).....here's a handy one - ever been stuck in finding a chord structure?........this should help (a lot):

A Guitar Chord - Guitar Chord Chart - 8notes.com

Also - if you want to try alternative tunings (I use dropped D a lot for slide playing), have a look at this one:

Guitar Tunings

Also...........have a go at this tuning:
DDDDAD...............I know it looks strange and that you'd be thinking "how can THAT work".......believe me, it does - Stephen Stills has made a living out of this tuning

Hope all this has further "inspired" you Tony......Oh and Norman.......get those bairns down from the wardrobe, man......they were made for playing - not decoration....lol ;)

Lol Steve...."Pretty Maids All In A Row" would equal a good days catch.....and if you got to "The Last Resort"....it certainly WOULD be a day to remember :D

Yorkio - thanks for that - it could well be lime. But like you say - never heard of lime being used as guitar woods...........I'll let others be the judge...lol......I'd much rather stick to the tried and trusted Spruce with Mahogany sides and back.......almost there in saving up for my Martin

It's a guitar players staple it must be said, that and Stairway to Heaven...which I'm told goes down very well in music shops :o:D

Actually I've never really managed to get Stairway just right...got big fat sausage fingers :D

"Actually I've never really managed to get Stairway just right...got big fat sausage fingers "

Well Tony.....to be honest.....I've always detested that song.....how it became a "classic" is beyond me.............I think Rolf just about summed it up....hahahaha.:p
