Wrecks East of Coquet Island

Graham B

Well-known member
Morning,

After having a scan of the chart I am just doing a bit of planning before I get home on wednesday. There are a group of wrecks about 6-8 miles roughly due east of Coquet Island within about 2 miles of each other. I was just wondering if anyone had fished them and had any information on them, how they fished or if they were worth trying. I just fancy a bit of a change from rough ground fishing at creswell or hadston and the few lunkers that have been caught the last couple of days gives another push towards the wrecks. The distance covered will be about the same so all I need are favourable conditions. It's all new to me so any advice will be gladly received on these wrecks or wreck fishing in general. Looking at the forecast for the week it looks a lot better towards the weekend, here's hoping. Thanks,

Graham.

not fished them but this is the doins on them, plus there's also a few uncharted ones on the way out that might be worth a look:

Got the readings of all the wrecks in that area Mr B!. I inherited my brothers wreck book he had on the trawlers. Caught any pollack yet? Gis a shout sometime when your back.

Thanks for that Mark and Colin I'll give you a tinkle this weekend, send me an e mail with your number. We have only managed two trips off so far this season but micky was off on sunday and had a few cod and the first mackeral of the season, haven't tried the pollack yet as the water was filthy both times we were off and we are still bedding things in on the boat. She is coming out this weekend for the ten hour service on the engine then hopefully its full ahead from there! Got to get as much fishing in as possible before the new and final addition turns up late september and I get grounded by the missus!

Graham.

well with the wreck waypoints now posted on this web site, and viewd by umpteem boat anglers who hadn't got a clue where they where, I think you will be getting quite a few visitors.

It's a rather large list, many of which may not have a lot left or not fish anyway. Then you've got to locate them. I'd doubt people will be bumping into each other! Do you not believe this relatively easy to come by information shouldn't be openly shared Alan, you'd struggle to do your job if anglers didn't freely share information with you? I'm not quite sure where I stand personally, maybe a pm would have been more appropriate, maybe not?

Al

i keyed in SIBI on google ,only because loads of Ships/wrecks had it within the info ,and i didnt know what it meant

and ended up on a divers site ,same format as this one ,so "Lurked" and they were discussing loads of wrecks with all co-ordinates etc ,so cant see this post making crown court :D

Alan, I don't understand where you are coming from. I asked for a bit of advice and help on a fishing forum on an area of boat fishing that I am a novice in, which I have stated in my post. Mark has given me some lats and longs which I am vey greatfull of, thats the whole point of a forum isn't it? Anglers swapping info on tackle, tactics, marks etc? All to improve your fishing skills and enjoy even more what everyone on this forum loves doing.......fishing.
How do juniors and novices improve or in the case of juniors start fishing and catching? With the help and advice of anglers who know more than they do and are prepared to help and offer advice. I know there are instances where information is not avaliable and you fish the mark in all conditions to see the best tidal/weather conditons the mark produces in but if you can get some help on the way to shorten this trial period why not?

Graham

Alan,

I bet if he pulls up a specimin or two from above mentioned marks you will still want a photo! lol!

Aan you so perfectly demonstrated the selfish CLICQUE attitude demonstrated by those who think they rule the sea and beeches of our beautiful coast line. You of all people should be looking towards helping inexperienced anglers getting the most our of OUR sport. This way of thinking poisions the sport. All for one and F""K everyone else. Anyone with half a brain can get this info at any library or internet site!!!!

Information like this is in the public domain anyway.

All the information is out there for anyone who wants to find it like you say , but I can see where Charlton is coming from , not so much in respect of this particular enquiry but in general if someone had asked for instance "which wreck were you fishing when you bagged up with doubles yesterday?" not many would be forthcoming with an answer.
Wrecks are easy to find , cod and ling on the other hand can be pretty damned difficult to locate , so publishing a wreck that is full of fish on here would probably see you fighting for a space in the drift the next day ,... not much fun.
If anyoneone would like to put me on some fish around Amble for this weekend , I'd be much obliged :D (p.m. preferred , no point fighting for a space  )

Ray

Having wreck marks is only part of the conundrum to catching fish. Each mark fishes differently depending on seasons of the year, states of tide, water clarity and tactics used and is no different to any other fishing in this respect.

The real skill is not knowing where they are but knowing when to fish them and with what method.

Alan
