Can anyone tell me what the x is in relation to on cast and tippet material and should i use a degreaser still on flourocarbon

Probably not Simon.
Take care to leave a sensible lenght of trace (mono or Flouro) twixt flyline and hook. Take care with your knots. If you are fishing sub surface, you shouldnt reeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaly need to degrease. but you could.
IMHO the X Factor comes as with everything, practice.

X2. Is it a tapered leader?? thats why, I thought you got two mate when I bought some!!. Its a sizing system.
