Raymarine announces prize packages for British Cod Championships

October 2007 – Raymarine is once again supporting the British Cod Championships, announcing a multitude of prizes for the winning fishermen and the winning boat.

Over 23 boats, with around 200 individuals using rods and lines are expected to compete in this year’s event which takes place on 14-15 November.  The boats are based at Yarmouth with the fishing taking place in the Needles area.  Entries for the event need to be received before 9th November.

This popular event, now in its 16th year, attracts top prize money with £1,000 for the person catching the heaviest cod each day, and £1,000 for the person who catches the most cod over two days.

Raymarine, which sponsors the event, presents a selection of products to the individual winners.  The winning boat also receives a bundle of Raymarine equipment including a 2kW radome, C80 multifunction colour display and a digital fishfinder DSM300 sounder.

Last year saw entries from the South Coast, Wales, Scotland and even Canada, with Jude Riddler announced as overall winner.  He caught his first ever cod on the second day, which combined with a further catch that day gave him the winning total weight of 29 lbs and 14 ozs.

With even more boats anticipated to join in this year, competition will be high and anyone wishing to enter should contact organiser Dave Stephenson  at West Wight Skippers Association on 01983 821225 or visit the web site at www.westwightskippers.co.uk
