Well, with a good forecast, new suspension, new vhf ariel, new electric winch fitted, a few worms inthe fridge, all systems were GO! Launched at Cullercoats at 9-30am, and headed straight out to a close in wreck off Whitley.
No tide at all, missed the wreck completley first drift, next drift spot on, and as soon as it showed on the sounder, thump, over went the light rod, and having to pump the fish up, adouble header, one 4lb, and the other about 1-3/4lb.
Next drift one about 2lb+, then a couple of pouting. A few drifts later, a good pull down, this felt better. As i pumped it up, it decided to head back to the wreck against the clutch, but steady presure got it heading back up eventualy broke surface, but not one fish, another double header, both the same size, a good 5lb each. Decided to lift the first one by the trace then net the second one....................big mistake, the hook tore the lip open, and off it swam. Used the net on the other one.
Soon the wind freshend from the west and decided to go inshore of the yellow can and anchor. Dropped the anchor and dropped the two baited hooks over. Straight away into a2-1/2lb codling, followed by another with my last lugworm. After that, not another bight on the rag, so headed in.
Excellent first day of the season, may it continue.
Some pics.
