A life on the Ocean waves???

:D Hi all, not been around much recently. All sorts of preasures, not even been out on me\' boat since December. And there is the rub, I have sold my Starfish 8. I am waiting for the new/old replacement in June, I am having withdrawal symptons, volentearing to do decorating and gardening, its that bad  However not long till June now.

My partner, the long sufering Hazel is a Hatlepool lass, one of 9. Most of her family still live in HP. So as the new boat is a 35 ft Cygnus, comercial hull fitted out as aTrawler Yacht, we though it would be a nice idea in 2006 befor we loose \'pink diesel\' to take some holiday (2/3 weeks) and come to HP, see the family, meet a few friends and wet a line or two?

When in the summer is a good time? I get the impresion the boat fishing dies a bit in summer. If not, what am I likley to expect in the way of fish, are they in or off shore etc, etc? Is there any one who would fancy a day out, or a few hours in the evening on board \'wetting a throat or two\'.

\'KT\'(Katie) the awaited Cygnus, being a comercial hull, is a great sea boat, but not fast, so distance on a limited hours day tip could be an issue? Although a couple of hours steam can see 16 to 20 miles behind?

during the summer the boats tend to pick up on the wrecks ,from any time now there is the chance of cod . ling and other fish of the wrecks . most of the boats from hartlepool are slow and mainly hit rough ground or wrecks up to 20 miles out , a lad i know only used to go out to about 12 miles and we have had some really good days .best of luck when you do drop a line .

:D Sounds great, off East Anglia, (Felixstowe home port) in the summer we fish at anchore, mainly for Bass, Tope, Smoothound and Roka. We just dont go for wrecks. they are there 15, 20 miles off, but have a reputation of being fished out? Fancy a go at the ling, neaver had a ling. What about coal fish?

As I say be nice to meet a few of you, the new boat is a hybrid, part trawler yacht type, walk round accomodation, with a good size cockpit, more along the lines of her original comercial origins, good old muck and scrub, self drain decks.

Welcome back cliff . It is now the start of our season proper and it runs till xmas sometimes . When your ready give me a post and I\'ll fix you up with some co-ordinates mate . Most of us are based in the Tyne but get to HP regular , it\'s mainly wrecking up there so you don\'t need to anchor :P . Main methods are pirks , leadheads , and flowing trace bait of either mackeral or squid . Bert and co do well on crab and he will advise you better if he see\'s this . good luck with the new boat .

:D Thanks Dave, I know 2006 sounds a long way off, but there is nothing like planning and being prepared, anticipation. Many years since I have used perks, never tried lead heads. I might give then a try on our \'fished out wrecks\', may just be an answer?

Hi Cliff, saw your pic in this months mag LOL had to draw a white crash hat on first to recognise you :) :)
As ken and dave say the seasons just about to start here (fingers crossed) and we fish right through with good catches till November.
Lets know when your in the area and we`ll show you around, oh and a pint in Hartlepool sounds just fine.

 Hi Norman, 1995 was the last time I doned a \'bone dome\'. Had a model Spectacular at the weekend on local Airfield (Rougham). I dont know, could not muster the enthusiasum and yet on the other hand I would love to bend the sticks again, just to see if I\'ve still got it, certainly feel confident. Perhaps not, this old man is definatly on, \" 8 knots speed limit\". Any faster and its heart attack time??? :o

Be good to see you again, can you get a day off work, if we come up next year, be great to have one or two on board for the day, might be able to arange a couple of days, one on the weekend. Wont know how many I can accomodate untill June, but it could be as many as 6 to fish? I could do it as a feature in BFM.

you will have to hope norman leaves some fish for you from what i have heard about him , he catches the big ones and leaves the little fish for others if he leaves any at all .

;) He woudent daer, if I can lick the pants off him around the pylons, catching a few extra fish should be no problem! Norman will explain what I mean?
Cliff

LOL cliff :) :) i used to enjoy group 3 (lots of trophies) but then promoted to group 2 .... :( damn site harder ...... good days though.

I`ve just re-joined BMFA this year by the way , got a couple of sports models to fly if you want a go ? ....... look forward to a good chin wag

:D Hi Norman, if we can put something together next year that would be great. :P I have lost alll contact with my old flying budies. I live 120 miles away now-a-days. Fishing and boats are my first love, However, 45 years of building and flying has to leave some sort of mark?

Time is the factor, perhap when I retire I can pick up the balsa knife again? I have a very good boat owner/fishing friend in Ipswich, who also enjoys modelling, but he\'s the same, time is limited. I think electic gliders will be my thing, eventualy, always had a soft spot in that direction, bungees, tow line and slope soring in those days. Still got a \'Centiphase\', the only plane I have kept, + Tx 3 off, Rx 6off, sevos numerus, barteries all knackered!!!

But back to fishing, Cole fish are they on your patch, allways fancied them, big fight all the way to the net??? Ang of corse Ling, neaver had a ling, good eating I think? I will look forward to 2006 very much.

Yeah cliff , many coalie here (in a few months time anyway) vary from small 1/2 lbders around the piers to some good 4 - 5 lbdrs over the wrecks. Ling, lots of them, seem to be more plentiful each year, best chance of double figure fish is ling over the wrecks on fresh mackerel fillets.

Frash mackeral, now thats something we rearly see off Felixstowe. 20 years ago they used to almost give themselves up on the beaches! I remember we would catch them for bait, then the last couple went streight in the pan, 10 minuites from sea to plate, what a flavour treat! I presume the comercials dont target the ling so much? Certainly dont see much ling on the slab, although I have seen it in fish markets. . . . by catch? Does it eat well?

We have to go 20 miles off shore for mackeral theses days, and even then there is no garantee, if only we could get them close in, \'fresh, fresh\' mackeral is top bait for big double figure bass off the banks in shore, tope as well. Un washed squid is a substitute, but it dont do the business anything like as well. Although eel section, if you can get eel, works well on tope.

By the way Norman do you fly \'throttel/rudder on the left\'?
Cliff

Last Question first , mode 2 yes ... :) :) :)

Mackerel .... Loads of them after end of may (sometimes end june) usually right through until september and even into october, just depends on the season. But when they`re in they are in in abundance with strings of four being caught every drop. When wrecking in mackerel seson we have to use big hooks and mask them with bait to stop the mackerel throwing themselves on the hook. Yes agree about the taste and as you said take the last ones caught home for the pan and grill them as soon as you get home ............ the best ! :) :)

:P We had a gas ring on board, as I said, 10 mins!!! from sea to pan, to gob, YUMMMM  Sadly they just aint around these days :( . Usualy, if you do catch any there are so few they have to be for bait.
Cliff

Thats really strange cliff how around our same shores it can be so different ...... like I say in the season end of May till sept/oct there are so many mackerel they are treated as pests after you`ve gathered the first few for bait.

:) Those that know better than I, tell me it is all due to the water temperature and plancton not liking the slightly warmer temperatures that now dominate the South end of the North Sea. The food chain has been interupted? This is suposed to be why we dont get the double figure Cod any more . . . ; got nothing to do with over fishing and taking imature stock!!!! :casstet:
