Ever since I was a kid and swiched to a multiplier I thought they were the be all and end all. Recently, after much reading I bought myself a good shimano fixed spool and filled it with 66lb power pro. I love it ! Casting is a breeze, bite registration is second to none and no tying leaders. I've enjoyed a lot of success with this now and although it has its applications it is my preferred approach now. Sure multipliers have there place as does mono but for me at the moment braid and a good fixed spool is my first choice !

just wait till you try and handball a doubler itl chop your fingers off and pullin snags;)atb plum

Braids good as long as you have a soft rod, otherwise its very easy to rip the hook out. :o

Spot on.
I stopped using braid for that very reason.
As soon as you lose your first decent fish you will ditch it.
Ideal for long through action back casting outfits with a fixed spool though.
If you use a fast taper beachcaster, forget it.

Used power pro 40 lb for deadbaiting on the lochs...no problem.
Tried feathering for launce with it on Blyth pier...after half a dozen
chucks,it looked like i had half a dozen tarantulas hanging off my line!
Went back to mono coz trying to get knots out of braid,is like trying
to get Plum to stop cadging bait,a complete non starter!:o:D:D:D

Av just got my self a new penn surf blaster 8000 comes with two spools one for brade 1 for mono and all be yousing both good luck mate as a need it

Cheers Scotty. Its another learning curve and another string to your bow. No doubt I will lose the odd fish but like I said learn to use it. Its pros outweigh its cons for me and I won't be ditching it for a lost fish. A mate of mine uses braid and is a very good angler, in fact he's outfished this lot on their own patch ! And he's outfished me plenty as well through using braid.

A lad I know has used braid on his saltist for ages same braid as you 66lb power pro uses it in the rough ground and very rarely loses a fish and has had some belting fish. Possibly the same person. I fished with him few weeks back I was losing gear and he was just able to works his way out the snags.

I will be using braid on my multi soon for the rough stuff. As u say it has its pros and cons but I think its well worth using.

i was told braid dont work on a multiplyer cos it digs into the spool when reeling in something heavy , making the next cast impossible ???

any input ?? as im new to braid myself

better line retrieve as well

I use braid and like it a lot. Mind I used it for many years in freshwater match fishing and it therefore seems more natural. The only thin I hate is I seem to get a really big bow in the line when casting in a side wind.
Soft rod for sure, I use a Penn Affinity 15'.
Dont know about braid on multis, my instinct is it could be a chew getting the line lay right. I think people do it though.

braid can be used on a multi but it has to be round profile braid stops it digging in, also use less turns of handle when thumbing it across your spool. plenty of people use it now for the rough ground they still use a mono leader though for abrasion.

i will be getting myself some power pro soon to use on my mutli for the rough ground.

if using braid on a beach in good sea's and can be hard to hold bottom though as it has not strech to it.

hope this helps m8

Braid is fine on a multi. You need to pick a good round braid, like power pro, and be mindful to move it across the spool faster with your thumb as you retreive.
That stops any chance of bedding in. Also use a short mono backing to atatch it to the spool, and check it regularly for damage.
If you use a mono shockleader your braid will last years. I've got 2 sl20sh loaded with 66lb power pro and cast miles with them.
The only downside is if you get an angry cod on that you need to bully, and it starts shaking its head, without any stretch in the braid you can easily straighten hooks or pull them clean out. So set your drag.
I use a long 60lb shockleader down to a 3 way swivel then 50lb sinker drop and hooklength.
I find varivas big mouth extra and gamakatsu octopus in 5/0 man enough to cope.
Give it a go matey, but set that drag. :)

The extras are spot on. The normal big mouth just snap.
I use Viking uptide hooks if I need a hook that will bend out.
