A word of warning for anyone visitin MOG

Just back from a weekend staying at New England Bay at the MOG. We always put a couple of lobster pots in at low water and collect at the next low water.
Went on Saturday to collect the pots and some thieving scum bag had taken the pots. Some people on the beach informed us that they had seen a small boat that head been fishing the tope festival take the pots. So an expensive weekend with four pots stolen.
Its a sad state of affairs when our supposed fellow anglers steal your property. I am sure that they would not be happy if they had their boat damaged or stolen.
Any information on who the scumbag is will attract a reward.

could have also been the local pot fishers who dont like others on their patch.

More than likely
The locals up there in my experience can be awful people…sometimes. Very protective over “their” grounds – even digging worms you’ll have to be careful not to upset someone

Whenever I hear of shxte like this, it reminds me of "The League of Gentlemen" and "You're not local, are you?":

Or indeed "The Wicker Man" (which of course was filmed in the Mull of Galloway:rolleyes:)

Thing is; I'm pretty sure that if the local business folk were made aware that "The Locals" were affecting potential income by intimidating tourists ( that's what we are after all said and done) in this way, there might be a bit more interest shown by the "local" Police etc.

As it stands; simply going off the initial post and the replies to it, I doubt I'd waste my time going over there now:(

I may well have gone across for the day, maybe only spending a few quid on food, drink and possibly even fuel but next time, I might have stayed for a weekend on a camp site,in a caravan or in a b&b and after that; potentially a week or a fortnight! spending hundreds!

A shame really but not uncommon, at all.

a bit over the top.... "your not a local are you"?

Pots

Pots

I had really good reliable info that it was one of the festival boats. I know the lad who commercially pots the same area and he has no problem with the pots I put out.

Whether or not one person saw a boat with pots on board is neither here nor there if you think about it.

Who's to say, that whoever removed the pots actually held on to them?
What's to stop someone lifting the pots and emptying them (if there was anything in them that is), then simply dumping them back over the side in deeper water?

That's just one scenario!:)
