Having not fished from the shore for the best part of a year+ I thought I'd swot up on the latest technology and current trends and I have been surprised that apart from a few new brands the basic wherewithal remains the same...

..now the question that springs to mind has fishing technology reached its peak?

I know that the rods and reels have come along way since they were chucking 12oz leads 100 yards with broom sticks and cart wheels; and line has got thinner and stronger but nothing ground breaking is happening that I can see

Someone care to prove me wrong...maybe I'm not as "down with the kids" as I perhaps think I am

Am here to be enlightened ;)

You're lucky Tony, i'm hitting the beaches again after 3 years :o:D....
I've had a lot of help from Kingcod Deano, and updated to 21st century tackle...:D

Century Kompressor SS
4 Penn 525 Mags.
New rucksack
Various terminal tackle items....rotten bottoms, pulley swivell beads etc...etc....:)

Hope its at its peak, cost me a bloody fortune...:D;)

equipment a lot better now than say 20 year ago but some ppl still only use their old gear:confused::D

No doubt it will still improve through innovation and technology, like anything else really

I'm still using all the same gear as 3 years ago, i have switched to braid on the multi though, only had one sesh with it but so far in happy the main advantage, not surprisingly is bite detection

I'd say the biggest change recent times is fixed spools with braid and hitting bigger distances and tide fish during daylight.

But are the tackle companies actually coming up with anything that is making you think "hang on I'm going to spend my money on that" ??

Read certain mags when on my hols and let's be honest the "reviews" are always going to say yeah buy it (coz I'm getting paid to - oh and thanks for the freebies ) I was struck by how samey everything is these days!

All the main brands are copying each other in terms of everything and nothing is standing out as a new idea

It seems to me there is no more innovation?

Tony - get a grip - rely on what you originally said:

"100 yards with broom sticks and cart wheels"

if you can cast that far you've covered 95% of our coastline but the main thing is casting it where the fish are (more difficult)- the rest is sex appeal -look for me in my yellow oilskins

exactly, similar to what i was gonna say as long as you can cast in the 80 yards area in the right place with the right bait you r gonna catch fish sooner or later
