advice for re-starting..

Hi Guys, I'm planning on starting out again after a good few years off, just moved down the W.Bay area and keen to start afresh. Even though I've fished on and off for years I'd still class myself as a novice and I've only fished marks like Spillers/Smiths Dock/piers etc

I'd really like to try the beaches in the W.Bay area and the rock marks but think the mixture of my old Diawa Moonraker & little Abu 6500 together with my limited casting skills wouldn't cope!

I'd appreciate some advice on getting some new gear, budget around £150-£200 for rod & reel (think I'd like a new reel but would go 2nd hand for suitable rod) I've always used multipliers - but have always had level winds. I think I would benefit from some casting lessons as well, so again advice appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

PS: great site, it's given me the drive to re-start!

if u definatly want a new reel get a slosh 20 or 30 the 30 being the bigger 1, i use a slosh 20 for on shields pier and around it now and again the slosh goes for 80 quid brand new from billys in north shields and i think 70 quid on the net. look around on the for sale sections on the sites for a used rod some decent rods about at good prices

as gary said get yourself a slosh, ive got the slosh30 and i love it, easily the best reel ive used. as for your rod there's nothing wrong with the old moonraker i used one for years and i wish i still had it. if your going to fish whitley dont worry about casting distance, most of the fish ive got from there have been caught no more than 50yds out.

would agree with you had a slosh 30 for a few years had no problems great reel for the rough stuff really smooth and a quick retrive

Keep the Abu for lighter fishing and agree with the others get a Slosh. Suggest a 30 for heavier line for rougher ground and the Abu for the beach.
