advice please.boat at hartlepool.

Hi all noticed in adtrader theirs a boat 18 footer for sale,2 engines fishing rods etc for sale.;.1300.no trailer.i rang him up,very little information given except doesnt come with a trailer.i asked him what type of boat.he replyed he didnt know.on phptps it says pilot.what do u think,is it dodgy or what.dont know much about boats but thinking about contacting him and havjng a look.any info appreciated.:red:
 
Sounds doggie maybe nicked i dont know but sounds a good price.

Ask him if he would be ok with you getting a boat servay and engine number check done, you can tell alot straight away by his reaction to the question.

Just had a look at it on Adtrader, looks a canny boat with plenty of gear for the price, but it doesnt look like its been antifould, which depending how long its been left in the water could be a problem. Also check the mooring fees as in Sunderland they are non transferrable so it may be the same in h/pool..

Never thought about the survey.he stated it was in the marina until april moored.i have checked the price of boats similar to this and they r a lot more,most have traler included.he also stated that the engines were serviced.l put this thread in becuse two nights ago went to new biggin to look at a boat.what a load of rubbish.1000 punds they wanted.i realized then, good boats u will have to pay a lo more money out.
 
Go and have a look at it Mark it cant hurt. If youre unsure about it being dodgy, check his details with the marina office they should verify if it belongs to the seller.....
 
its a tricky buisness buying boats, do you have a mate or know anyone whos knows a bit about boats who could go with you?
 
No mate,tried to get friend to go along,but unable to go.what he did say is normally u pay for what u get.he checked advert and said its a agood starter,but the likely hood,u will have to pay money out to bring it up to standard.
 
Unfortunately cheap boat means money pit if it is not looks then it may be ok as a started boat but having it all checked out could cost and the hull will need taking out to see what state the bottom is in

Thanks i would realy appreciate that.ill even throw a few pints in.but first ive learned one thing.take ur time. Im going to have a look tomorrow and will get back and let u know.its pointless 3 of us wasting our tme.if it doesnt look too bad and if its okay then i will get back to u all about it.cheers lads realy appreciate it.something tells me though im wasting my time.still got to go.just the way the guy was talking the other night.didnt realy give a lot of information out except sted he bought for 2grand plus and has never used it.why? And if he never had a trailer then how did he get it from a to b.nevermind still going to check it out and get back to u all lads.and if it dosnt work out stick to my odiginal buy sea hog or orkney strikeliner.cheers lads.
 
Defo one bit of advice isto decided when looking is what it has n what you want it to be as like said in earlier post old boats are money pits! You may think its a bargin till you decide u want do this n that, could be cheaper in long run buying more expensive one!
 
Well i hope you get sorted, my boat is just shy of 12 years old now and i have owned her almost 6 years, they do take alot of money in the upkeep and mooring costs but for me i use it 2-3 times a week every week for 5 months if the weather lets me so its worth it.

A boat of that size you are looking at is mainly for inshore work or when the forecast says smooth or slight max with 2 people comfy 3 at a psuh. Do see them out further but IMO you need to be sure of the weather incase it changes.

Any boat owner who says they have never been caught out a bad sea is lieing, it can change so quickeven if you have alot of experiance.2 seasons ago we went out around 7 miles, not really far, flat sea weather stating light winds building during the night...after 4 hours fishing you could see in the far distance the sea was gray and we started heading in as i had seen that before...ow boy it was fun the last 3 miles, side on with waves about 3 seconds apart (meaning you never got a chance to climb the last one before the next broke over the boat)

Then you get the great days, not a boat in sight (i like to have nothing in sight) flat day, no wind sun in the sky and a few fish biting, with the stove on and a tin of curry or hot dogs on cooking away, birds diving and the odd dolphin in the distance.......perfect :)

Good luck with whatever you do and the lads on here as you have already found will help you out with any questions....Also try boats and outboards website, some good boats on i got mine from there.
 
Thanks northeast one,dont mind paying more money out for a boat,but honestly cant afford a new one.so far ive seen4 boats.none them in my opinionr sea worthy.and two of them they were asking alot more for.all im after is a honest bloke selling a safe boat.after all if a car breaks down u can get out and walk home.if boat breaks down.then ur stuffed.cheers everybody for advice again.realy apreciate it.and thanks again easyfish for ur p.m.
 
Yeah, as Rob says, i'll have a look with you, dont be blinded by a pretty looking boat, its the engine thats the main thing, another point is....dont buy a boat just because its local and handy, Rob bought his from Southhampton and i bought 2, one from Essex and one Shrewsbury. If you want me and the daft pooly :D to have a look with you, its no problem....:)
 
Hi Mark, I use to have a Pilot 5-20 a few years ago, altho the cabin was a bit bigger than that one. They are a good sea boat and handle a following sea great. Hard to say how old the main engine is on photo, but for the money and a sea trial, looks like the owner might just want rid of, perhaps not a regular angler:confused: Certainly worth a good look.
Take Rob and Chris up on there offer, as they have both good knollage of boats.
