Fished Amble pier on thursday with the granddaughter. Started fishing about 09:30, an hour before low water. Started at the 3rd bench, had a small flounder straight away. Been fishing for half hour when I got chatting to a local fisherman who walking his dog. He advised us that the place to fish was at the last bench so we quickly moved down the pier to where he told us. Set up there and waited patiently for the first fish. After fishing for the next 3 hours without a bite, we moved back to our start point and were straight into fish, only small flounders but at least they were fish, which was more than we had been getting at the end of the pier. I know local knowledge is a great thing and I`m sure that the spot does fish well, but on this occasion it seems that the fish weren`t prepared to show up. I will try there again in the future and hopefully have more luck.
Ended the day with 12 flounders, 7 for me and 5 for the granddaughter, all were returned alive. Bait used was lug tipped with thin slivers of mackerel.
