Angling Clubs

Angling clubs would be really easy to police. You work out where the weigh in's are and go along.

i cant see these people coming out at 11.00pm to watch a weigh in

They come round the trout fisherys on a bank holiday. Don't think they won't come out a t 11.00pm they make massive amounts of money through fines.
During 2004 - 2005, we prosecuted over 4000 anglers for fishing without a licence. This is about 4% of all 163,000 anglers that our officers spot checked. The total fines (and costs) came to about £500,000
Failure to provide a valid Environment Agency rod licence could result in prosecution (maximum fine £2,500)

There is big money for the Government in fishing .

The following figures are the totalled rod licence sales and value in England and Wales for the years 1995/96 to 2005/06:

Year Sales Value

1995/96 1,000,646 £11,171,448
1996/97 1,171,914 £12,252,989
1997/98 1,196,417 £13,386,885
1998/99 1,143,883 £12,955,984
1999/00 1,136,228 £14,320,773
2000/01 1,085,446 £14,419,060
2001/02 1,143,430 £14,868,720
2002/03 1,180,061 £16,009,823
2003/04 1,261,972 £18,004,606
2004/05 1,218,218 £18,593,000
2005/06 1,296,865 £20,292,629

More people fish the sea, its a golden cow for the goverment one they have had there eye on for years.

Ok lads,

Change the venues of the weigh in. Its a good idea. But do you really want to be looking over your shoulders every week ?

The first thing we should do is point out to DEFRA that we are actually against these proposals because they have nothing at all to do with conservation. DEFRA need to know that although NFSA calls itself the governing body of sea angling they don't represent us on this. I am 100% certain there is a large body of anglers who don't want any 1 item listed in that angling strategy. We need to stand together and get this message across.

Then if they impose this on us. We can stand up and say at least we tried.

Then we have our matches in secret.

as ive said previously

it just a jobs for the boys

always has and always will
im sure a lot of people will agree with me

I think you all know my personal views on the Fed, they do absolutely nothing for the northeast, they have shown there true colours at the last meeting in gateshead.
They made promises, which they did not keep.
I have posted in shore angling issues and had very limited reply from Doc ( another waste of tiem in my oppinion)
As far as licenses go, then they can whistle, i buy my rod license for freshwater and i am not buying one for the sea.

Obviously my knowledge is second hand as I haven't been at any of these meetings. However I am assured that Doc is the only angling rep who stood up and opposed all of this.

A couple of anglers I know from the South turned up unannounced at the meeting. I heard they were made less than welcome. Guess who by ?

Its being claimed that all nfsa members have been consulted.

It really annoys me that the nfsa talk at these meetings under the guise of the representative body of UK anglers. Like you say they do naff all for NE sea fishing. But we need to be very careful because DEFRA are taking them very seriously. Its about time DEFRA were told these people do not represent us and what these proposals will do for fishing in the NE. Bag limits potentially spell the end for our fishing clubs and for the charter fleets at Hartlepool and Whitby.

This has been drafted up it seems by 3 girls & 3 boys in hull university, i dont think we have much to worry about. its full of holes.

Not that many clubs or now individuals that I know are affiliated to NFSA. New Hartley SAC and Northumbria Police SAC like most I know affiliate to Northern Federation of Sea Angling Societies. Look after clubs on a local basis as well as representing angling on sea fishing matters. All members are insured as well.

Glenn, i have asked mr Edwards to enlighten the anglers on this site, so we can get some first hand information on the position of the northern fed regarding the proposed RSA strategy .

Has anyone had any luck in contacting the northern federation. I havent yet but I've left a message on the answer machine so hopefully they will be in touch soon

Still cant get in touch with the northern federation. But I found this interesting snipet on another site. I really think we need to have our eyes fixed firmly on the ball. Kent and Essex could be the first of many to take this move.

One of the first areas of the country are now considering bag limits for anglers. "Following a request from Defra , to the Association of sea fisheries committees to assist with the creation bylaws for bag limits on anglers.".The Kent and Essex sea fisheries committee is one of the first in the country to consider this.

Ok Guys I've had response from the northern federation of sea anglers. I don't have permission to print the response here (I will ask) but I got the feeling they aren't as concerned as I am, and pointed out the benefits of the sea angling strategy rather than the potential impacts on the charter industry, our fishing clubs and our ancient right to fish unrestricted with rod and line.

I'm not sure how we are going to get an opposing voice into the next meeting in London scheduled for March this year. As some of you have stated your clubs are affiliated to the northern federation of sea anglers perhaps if you are concerned about the potential impacts of the strategy you could get your fishing club secretary to write to the federation expressing your concerns. I am aware that it is going to be difficult to get your voices into the next meeting, my good friend, local skipper Paul Kilpatrick has asked DEFRA if he may attend the next meeting but he has been refused an invite.

I guess its down to you and your clubs to express concern now, if DEFRA don't hear our concerns they will assume everyone is happy with the proposals of the sea anglers strategy and press on with implementing them - over to you !!!.

no to licences

no to licences

I AM AGAINST ALL THESE ISSUES i dont know too much about it all but if i have to buy a licence to fish and have a limit on what i catch i might aswell put my fishing gear in the loft.i dont think many anglers know about these issues especially those not in fishing clubs.could we not put out a petition to all local tackle shops and get them to get signatures on it .i am also willing to take a petition around my local town centre and make people aware of the issues that are being brought up.i know most people wouldnt care but if we all did it i bet we would get quite a few signatures .i know its close to there next meeting but im sure if we all feel this strongly about this we could get the petition to london in time

Well Darren the state of fishing as it is, half the members of my club HAVE put their gear in the loft including myself. How will tackle shops manage when people are giving up in their droves?
Something serious needs to be done to manage our fisheries and bait beds correctly.
