Frasers of Gateshead are now offering 10% discount to NESA members on everything excluding bait.
Many thanks to Brian at Frasers and to Sixfootsteve for enquiring.

Not \"thick\" at all, Ray - it\'s the obvious question and I\'ve been waiting for somebody to ask it.
Simple answer is - they don\'t.
It\'s all done on trust.
As well as having 591 registered members, there must be hundreds of regular \"lurkers\" on NESA. Those who look in on the Board but either haven\'t yet registered, don\'t intend registering or former members who have been \"banned\" from the Board (fortunately, there are only 2 or 3 of the last variety), can all claim to be NESA members when they go for gear and there\'s n way of proving otherwise.

Many years ago, I did suggest having a NESA membership card to use in such situations, but the idea wasn\'t a popular one - it seems that ANY form of ID card, even back then, wasn\'t popular.

This is the sort of thing I came up with at the time.
The only details it would show are the username and date joined.
Those who have avatars would also have their photo on the card.

I think it would be a good idea and would be a lot fairer to those tackle shops that have been so good as to give us discount it would also encourage more people to stop lurking and join and may even pursuade even more places to give a discount I can\'t see any dis-advantages

i personaly dont see a problem with an id card at all, and maybe, just maybe , more shops might offer discount if we did, . but thats me, i guess some folk just dont like having id,

TC If an id card proves unrealistic, what is the chance of compiling a list of nesa members that only the shops can access to check. They all seem to be on the net. Although this might take valueable time when the shop is busy.

The only way the card system would work, is if there was 100% take-up - that is EVERYBODY - and going by the reception the idea recieved 1st time around, that just wouldn\'t happen. So in that regard Alan, I think it would prove unrealistic. Let alone the fact that I\'d have to prepare, save and e-mail out, nigh on 600 cards !!!

I\'ve already been asked if it would be possible to send a membership list to those dealers offering discount.......however, I don\'t think that would comply with the Data Protection Act.

However.........as you say, the dealers offering the discount do (in the main) seem to be on the \'net - even NESA members, themselves.
Because of this, they (like all NESA members) do have access to the NESA member list..........

Look at the top of the screen - next to \"Profile\"......you\'ll see \"Member List\". The list can be searched by registration date, alphabetically by username or (more practically) there\'s also the option to search for a specific username. All the dealer needs to ask is the persons username on NESA.....enter it into the search box and click.......if it doesn\'t come up in the list - the person ain\'t a NESA member.

I understand what you say about times when the shop may be busy, though........however, it would be in the shops\' own interests to check when somebody claims NESA Membership, to ensure that the discount given IS actually going to a NESA member.

only thing i can see there is though Tony, again anyone can enter the list and choose a name and use it, thats if it has no avatar, obviouly the answer is that all members have one that the owners can see, no avatar no discount. Or as i meant that a members list that only the shop owners can view with maybe an alias for each member. Think it looks as if it is going to be on trust by the looks of it.

Without asking for members personal details that I can pass on to the tackle dealers - it can only work on trust, Alan.

AND I CERTAINLY DON\'T WANT ANYBODYS\' PERSONAL DETAILS !

its down to trust in the end,it would\'nt be fair on Tony or Elton to issue Membership cards, alot of people register but dont post or post rarely, the only fair way if you/we wanted to use an id card system would be for us to pay the cost of it and ONLY if the member requested one,the site is North East based but alot of members live outside of the area so it would be a waste of time and money for some people.Another way is for the member to PM the relevent shop and tell them you are coming down and might want to buy x y and z,then introduce yourself when you get there.

Personally, I never expect any discount, no matter how long I\'ve been a customer.
But when a shop is OFFERING discount to NESA members, then that\'s a different matter, I think, Keith.
