Anyone doing a bit of winter fishing this year?

The reason I ask is my dad was saying he is going to keep the boat in for a bit longer this year and see if he can get a few crafty days out.

He had a canny day the other week with half a dozen keepers off Sunderland.

Do people use the same bait and lures or is there any good advice floating this threads way?



I've told the old bugger to take his mobile with him. Not that he knows how to use it.

Always worth a shot when the weather breaks Alan.Uptiding with lug, rag, mussel usually does well, drifting with bait as well, tell the old bugger to leave some for me

I'm going to give it a go whenever I get the chance through the winter, whether I actually catch anything is another matter but I'm going to try No idea on tactics , I think I'll try my own things with no preconceived ideas and see what happens, keeping warm will be the hardest bit I think

i emptied the boat a few weeks ago and last weekend i put most of it back on again, had a canny day at anchor on sunday about 1-2 miles off, bait fishing with squid, rag and lug, nothing substantial caught, but we were busy with the 1-2lbers, well worth a run out........

going out again this weekend if the weather is managable..this time with new camera so should get a few pics for a, with luck...... "catch " report

Magic Seaweed reckons flat seas this weekend... but then thats Magic Seaweed, don't trust it too much! XC Weather shows strong Southerly winds... hmmm... should I sacrifice a much needed lie-in this Saturday??.... decisions decisions...

On another note, I am really wanting to get out for a bit winter fishing yes. I had an abysmal Summer fishing (went out about 5 times max), so still itching to get out!

I wont be out until Mid-March, not a fan of the cold at all but best of luck to anyone that fishes. March to Oct man here
