Lots of whiting there to keep the lads busy! Well done to Tony again - bet some mackerel fillets were used up today haha:D I think the three of us from South Beach club were all recovering from our Xmas comp & drink yesterday, but see you in the new year Davy.

Gary :)

Kudos to the Tynemouth lads for not slaughtering bags full of whitings for the sake of getting their weight up.
How does the weighing work? Does everyone carry their own scales or is there a weighman sprinting up and down the pier with a set of scales?

There are a couple of sets of scales - one kept up by the numbered pegs at the end (where most lads fish) and another down at the four-posts end for lads fishing the free zone. You just take your fish to the scales, get the weight witnessed by another angler and the score-chart filled out then the fish is returned (or conked on the head if it's a nice plaice or codling etc destined for the pan!).

stopped fishing the second half so I could get the the fish weighed and returned, most of the whiting were around 1lb with quite a lot heading towards the 2lb mark some of the lads took the bigger ones home for a fry, the lads fish number 1 to 24 each having 2 numbers then change at 12.30. to fish there 2nd number so it is quite easy to weight and return two sets of scales used sometimes three. davy.
