Im after a bass rod that i can also use for flattie bashing etc ive got about £100 to spend on one was looking at the sonik bass rod and was wondering if anyone has one or used one and if anyone can suggest a better rod baring in mind my budget cheers chaps.
If you're not a tackletart just get yourself a modestly priced 2.5 or 2.75 test curve carp rod. I've been using one for several years now for light fishing and it's great. Probably £30 - £40.
One bit of advice I would give is don't get a rod that's too long, and definitely don't get a carp rod. They are floppy and bend right through the cork which takes a lot of the feel away from playing a fish, feeling for bites and casting. I used a sonik bass rod recently for a day's fishing on a blowy day. The tip was too floppy for my liking. I emailed Shaun and basically said I think the rod should be a foot shorter. An 11-11.5ft rod with a stiff low section, and a fast actioned thin diameter tip is the best way to fish light. Match it with a front drag fixed spool and 30lb braid.
For my light fihsing I generally use a Greys Sea Spin rod. It is very light to hold, fast actioned with a cork handle and a thin tip that doesn't catch the wind. It's an utter joy and at 11ft long doesn't flop over in the tripod.
There are others, but generally instead of going for a 'bass' rod, try a longer spinning rod designed for sea use. Far more bass are caught on spinning rods than the branded bass rods.
Shakespeare Salt Flattie - great rod at a reasonable cost
Have caught Bass, Flatties, Mackerel, Pollack, Wrasse and Dogfish on mine - very versatile...ledgering, float and spinning it does it all and for less than £40
