Best place you've ever fished (UK shore)

Blyth pier 60's -80's Cod, coalies, plaice, dabs, whiting, mackerel, gurnard, garfish, horse mackerel, haddock, the list goes on and on.

Rhu narrows/Loch Long during the 70s. best cod fishing venue ever until they started pair trawling. Couple of years of that, killed it off.

Chesil Beach in Dorset for me. I get down there a couple of times a year and there's always loads of fish to be had. I had twenty eight fish over three evenings once. It's also the location of my one that got away story "it was THIS BIG !!!" :D The beach slopes down at 45 degrees so there is deep water right at your feet and a short lob get's you amongst the fish. Most of the locals target bass there but there are all sorts of other species to be had - codling, doggies, mackie, pouting, plaice, smoothounds and I've even heard of trigger fish being caught of the wreck at the Weymouth end. Love the place, going back again in May on my way to Cornwall, can't wait.

sounds excellent mate,1 of the places i would love to fish, heard loads about it,read plenty stories, might arrange a trip with missus and kids, what does it fish like in summer?and what species can u expect,summer/winter,cheers

Isle of man for me. Worked there for a few months and spent all my free time in the pub. :casstet:

Going back to sample the shore tope fishing this summer. So I'll tell you after I've been! :D

scenery wise, its loch etive for me,never even got a bite but didnt mind, the wildlife and scenery was good enough, stayed in a lovely log cabin right on loch awe,20min drive to etive, mid january, streams froze solid, fishing wise my best session was at amble in 2009,me a mate and my brother, after 3 days of strong northerly,a dying sea but still to big to fish the triangle,we fished in between 2 piers, short lobs, soon as your bait hit water, cod on,well for them 2 it was, they had 4 each in bout hour n half, all between 2-3lb,not the biggest fish but it was prolific,i chipped in with 1,the runt of the catch aswell, excellent night though, cant help thinking that a big 1 was there for the takin that night,

its gotta be Aberthaw for me, its in south wales in case some people dont know where it is, proper tackle grave yard, worse than the northeast coast hahaha

Same here, fished of the ferry and the point Plenty Cod in them happy days.:)

Aye great place to fish in the early 80's from the ferry and just a little walk up to the pub where i managed to pull the managers daughter. could get bloody cold up there with just a tilley lamp for warmth.

Sheigra, North West Scotland, 2 year ago. There is a sort of wild camping spot, with an honesty box there, 100yrds or so down there is a nice bay and alot of rock marks. Cheap spinning rod and reel with lures, we got a nice few pollock. Like the carribean up there when you hit the right time. :D:D

Used to go on holiday here when i was a young un in the eighties, like going back in time, agree pollock fishing is fantastic, loads of other species as well......long way to go....

Best place fished

Best place fished

For me the best place i ever fished was Cambois and the Blyth areas back in the 1960/s when i was a youngun about 17 to 18 years of age as there was cod galore then but now its all changed as its not that productive any more and the trawlers are not giving the fish time to breed as the foreigners trawl everything and its a pity we cannot go back in time.:D:D:D:D

Balcarry bay,was over hung, badly:exclam: had to plod through farmers fields up hills down cliffs, was bad weather,I felt like I was at the end of the earth,a pal helping me carry me stuff managed to drop me bait box(dinner) off a cliff 200ft high,to say I was gutted would be an understatement :exclam::exclam::exclam:Any who, after me pal salvaged me bait(only after I threatened to Scran his) i set about fishing although I was scared for me life as it was rough as f@@k first cast ,30 secs later rod gets ripped of the stand= 2 dogfish for. 8lb,that carried on all day, odd thorn back couple congers and a KFC on the way home topped it off! Class day all round! .....went back couple month later n caught a single flattie lol,so if u go u want to go in conditions only a fool would fish in :D

wheres the 200ft cliffs at Balcary :) got to be artistic license maybe 100ft at a push,I fished it on and off for 30 year and it keeps drawing me back, had hundreds of dogs but never a 4lber had some nice cod best just under 19lb in the late 70`s

Mull of Galloway for me. Thats why we bought a static caravan on the Clashwhannon site,Drummore,10 years ago.

Took early retirement 4 years ago and the wife and I spend virtually all the summer over there. The fishing is not as good as it was 20 years ago but it is still good. To be honest I was starting to get a bit bored at catching pollack and wrasse virtually every session so tend to lure fish for bass most of the time now.

I probably blank about 50% of the time bass fishing but I do love the challenge of trying to work out where they might show up next. Its great working the shoreline with lures and keeping on the move.

I never tire of waking up to this view from our caravan veranda. I know I am very lucky with the set up I have here. You can make out some Cumbrian peaks on the horizon on this shot - between Whithorn and the Big Scare.

I will never be leaving the place as my ashes are destined for Luce Bay.

North Shields ferry landing, used to lift with codlings and good coalies. I used to cycle down on my bike. You only got a couple of hours before the ferry started but that was probably made it better. There used to be 20-anglers in a 5 yd space and every one had a bucket of crab and a carrier bag brimming with fish. Heads lads coming over!

Rhu narrows was a class place, standing waist deep in chesties, shirt off in the middle of summer having your arm pulled off by codlings and coalies. Stunning place.

Balcary in the 80s. Everyone was so excited by the stories. You used to arrive to see 20-30lb cod lying on the rocks! You were almost running to get your bait in the water.

Blyth beach in the 80s, 30 codling in a session was easy and you used to dig budle bay to get enough worm to last you the week. 500 sometimes wasn't enough.

Off the boats Whitby took some beating, I remember my dad foolishly putting 3 Muppets and a jigger down on a wreck. Within seconds his 30 class rod was almost buckled with 4 monsters on. One cam off but he landed 3, all over 20lb.

Fishing now is crap but can't wait to get to the isle of man for more tope this summer. So easy to catch them.
