Aye saltwell park HUGE pike and perch,we used to row along in the boats with a spinner behind, used to c**p ourselves when a massive pike shot out the weed.
Newbiggin cliffs one of my favourite.

Think I was about 17/18 (1987/88), went to the Isle of Wight with the folks on holiday so I took my gear. Fished a few places around the island but Yarmouth Pier was my favourite. Didn't catch anything earth shattering size wise but there were loads of amazing coloured little wrasse all around it and they were excellent on a little light rod. Pier itself was beautiful, think you had to pay a small amount to fish from it (might have been 50p for the day) but it was worth it just for the pristine condition it was kept in (early Victorian job I think).
People on the IoW were a great bunch too, really friendly. Had a laugh when I went to find a tackle shop for some bait though - went into a place in Cowes and started talking, the woman there instantly has a beamer smile and starts asking me where in the NE I'm from (accent gave me away!), turned out her and hubby were originally from Whitley Bay :D
