Well what a great session today got to the pier just turned 9.am this morning set a light rod up and used worm and enjoyed catching coalies down the side a great bit of sport. there was about 15-20 rods out with the odd fish getting caught. a bit later on around the 12oclock mark there was a few makeral getting caught then for the next few hours there must have been 50+decent makeral caught on maily spinners but also daylights etc and there was loads of coalies as well coming in with them. I never got a makeral but enjoyed the coalie sport it brung back memories when I was a kid and me dad took is to blyth pier some 25+ years ago with a hand line and we fished and caught coalies then down the side of the pier. I came away and passed loads of people coming onto the pier to fish the car park was full. Anyway I hope I haven't bored you' to much with this report but I had a fantastic sesssion.

welldone on the session mate ,never seen and heard of so many coalies recently from the last few years they seem to be making a great comeback and excellent sport on the light gear too last time i was into them was st abbs and some felt 2lb plus but such a great fighting fish the bigger ones seemed to escape on the spinners

Canny sesh m8 coalies are great fun on light gear thats what i did.
Was out tues morn lots of coalies n fair few macs in morning, never seen so many coalies come in & 4 at a time, yes alan, i did that once
going back there when bigger tides come in.

Wonder if there's any from Cullercoats Alan?
never heard of any but nobody is fishing that area, they all go to the piers, long time since I have caught mackerel from Cullercoats piers or coalies for that matter

its funny you should say that, the other day when me and kela66 drove past cullercoats i said i wonder if you could get mackeral there. i think i'll give it a go, it'll be safer there than the other piers.

High tide you've probably got 8 feet of clear water. You're right Alan, there never were many mackeral but (although I never really did any spinning as a kid - didn't have a spinning rod and even at Eyemouth we were chucking out the big rod) the only mackeral I did catch were off the end of the south pier using a dooker and dogger toes.
