thanks mate, fished blyth pier today and the beach when it got dark, had a big granny fish first chuck, was a bit of a laugh with two fellas on the pier, a comerant also managed to fly into my line and take itself out, then one of the 2 blokes on the end with me had a cracking bite, turned out to be a comerant tangeld in his line! managed to free itself next to the pier(looked like it put up a good scrap!) well back to the fish,,,, first cast big granny( amusing) a few casts seen a few small whiting landed(during daylight) then one of the blokes managed a few small codling(well done pal was better than nothing!) a storm was brewing and the calm westerley wind soon changed to a full on north/ north easterly blow( made a couple of lads move down to the pier from lynemouth). not alot happening for a while as the tide was dropping but i managed to bag an alright flattie, plaice i think(it had orange spots but im not sure if flounder do aswell?). eventualy as darkness fell my hands became wet and numb so i moved onto the beach and warmed my hands up a bit before fishing near the pipe, didnt manage anything on the beach(sea was too flat) but the flattie i managed to catch on the pier was a treat when i got home,,, oven baked it with lemon juice and threw in a couple of bay leaves. all in all not the worst of days, got me out of the house after christmas with some new waders and seat box.i was getting a bit bored watching peoples dvd's knowing that i had some new kit to try out. all the best for the new year everyone, hope we all get some good fish in the new year! tra

just hoping for some decent cod, havn't had a keeper this season, although i tend to put back the smallest keepers to let them grow(they will probably end up in a supermarket tho) would be pleased with a 3lb cod this season. :)

There's a lot more 1.1/2lb to 2.1/2lb cod about this season but lets not complain to much eh:)

i know, im making up for it with other species, would love just 1, surely it should come tho, do you know if anything decent has been caught around whitley bay recently?

, plaice i think(it had orange spots but im not sure if flounder do aswell?).

would need to see a photo to make sure as some flounders quite often have big spots on, quite a few anglers mistake these for plaice

Harry, I know it is nice to catch the odd big Cod but I always prefer the meat from a 2 1/2 to 3 lber. I always think it is much sweeter.

Jim.

charlton, because of the quality of my the camera on my phone i take short vids to show family and mates, (i dont have a usb to put them from my phone to computer aswell) il search on google to find out exactly what it is.

Over Maryport where my boat is kept I fish the beaches in the summer and on still hot days on a flood tide get some cracking plaice.
You can end up with double figs in numbers terms.
They are very distinctive with there orange spots on the backs, flounders are of a dull colour but yes do have spots but not in the same league as the plaice for brightness.
I like to eat plaice but not keen on flounders,a friend of mine use to keep flounders from the blast and lynemouth,I asked him does he feed them to the cat,but no he used to eat them.
I said I used to eat them once over but had to put some slivers of pit belting in the pan with them to give them some taste, bloody horrible I thought.:D
