catching big codling

from the shore its right place right time right bait right star sign etc...
charter boats are the best place to stand a chance of a big cod the skipper is the key to a good catch.

Knowledge is a massive put but also luck is. Depending on what you call a big cod. 5lb and below can be caught quite a lot by a knowledgeable angler. Much bigger than that is having your bait in the right place as it swims past

its about the tools you use as well mate no point hooking into a big fish and not having the right gear to get it in......

90% Luck
5% Knowledge
5% Skill
Add the above together, then Add putting the hours in You might just might end up with a BIG Cod :exclam:

i fished the whitley bay comp on sunday me first 2 fish collies after the wiegh in thats after 2 mounth the other thing have just been rocklin but there no good are they lol.

ive got a greys orion was told that greys rod are not much use but its all i can afford and a abu reel, hope it can pull a fish in .

A dunno who told you that mate but don't listen, there's nowt wrong with greys rods mate, they do there job and do it well, maybe not to the higher standards of other rods, but dam close.

As long as your ok casting with it and your happy, there's nowt wrong mate. :)

fish wont know what rod u have bud...anyway if its codling u r after im sure ur rod will handle it...now rough ground cod is summit else....stress not about the gear as well mate ....just enjoy ur fishing ...

Check your pms

LMAO he asked about a fish not lady problems. :D As said already mate the rod and reels fine, remember they used to fish using bamboo and rope, they still do actually in some countries. The most important part of fishing is the bait quality and presentation, forget about what tackle tarts tell you to use zippy or century only and cast it a mile out to sea blah blah blah.

Still after a first codling/cod myself aswell (maybe I need a zippy and to cast a mile out to sea:D)and I have been fishing a year now, caught a lot of other species even targeting cod but no luck as yet. Then again when they arrived in the winter the weather quickly got rid of them, but this will be my winter and I will catch a cod. :o
