Codling/Cod

Got told the same - anything over 6 pounds. Because of this I've never actually caught a shore cod yet!! I suppose there has to be a cut off point for everything like when does a kid become an adult?

Think it is about 6 pound, summit to do with when the cod can spawn, younger than that its a codling. But think it is about the age of a 6lb codling/cod... growth per year carry on thinggy.

I found a vague reference on the 'net that Cod are deemed as adults when they get to 57-60cms...that would probably equate to 7lb in weight...I am of course guessing

Jeez - that's quite a benchmark then eh? Like Mog says I wonder how many people out there have actually caught a "Cod" before now...:exclam::o

The 6lb 14oz one I had a couple of weeks ago was all COD!! No Tommy or codling about it when you have it in your hands. Cod is a Cod regrdless of size.

You telling me there is Cod snobbery:question: (possibly) perpetuated by those who are "real fishermen" and that there is a possibility that this benchmark is merely a myth to make those who've never attained the heady heights of a 7lb Cod feel small and insignificant:question:;):D

I require scientific facts as to when a Cod becomes "adult":D

Cod is Cod.:):):)

The bigger they get the better it feels, doesn't matter how long you've been doing it. Everyone has their dreams of the 'big one' It's what beckons us to the beach year after year.

The difference is not in the weight but in the perceptive nature of the captor and the background he aspires to. I've, therefore, never caught a cod (as the word was never mentioned in the household) but I've caught some big codling, or codlings, to be accurate.

I was always told 7lb Tony, it's like a macho thing,.... like i caught a few cod last night, and you have to ask what weight they were. big deal a cod is a cod :)

codling is a cod just a young cod but still a cod,you dont go in the chip shop and ask for codling and chips
