Coooooooool day out on Slinky

Not really a catch report just a run out report.

Out on my own today, like to do this alone first day out of the season to check all is ok (and of course it should be anyway) to save panicking any crew just in case owt failed ........... LOL : but it didn`t.

Looked ok as I drove along the sea front at whitley this morning , just a slight hint of white tops but not bad since it was a predominatly west wind.
(how wrong I was it was blowing a blooming hoolie)

Managed to get out the lock in marina with a little bit of more care than usual since one of the lock gates had stuck but was able to squeeze out the width of a single gate ............... dont try it pansy ! you`ll be too fat :).
Off to the fuel pontoon ............. MY GOD £34 to fill up, most I`ve ever spent on fuel in one squirt. A combination of not refueling after last run out which was ages ago and constant running of engine and prop in marina at berth each weekend almost draining the tank along with a hike in the cost of deisel over the past 4 or five months (77p/litre at the moment ........ watch your wallet pansy)

Still, its great to be out again, met up with bert keith and kyle over a close in wreck ....... (their lines were almost horizontal in the drift and tide) ... Out of cabin to take the next pic and goodness it was cold.

Set off to St Marys (at half throttle bearing in mind the cost of the fill up - but that`ll wear off by a week or two :) )

Again it was similar to that at the entrance to tyne, a howling searing west wind that was so cold the chill factor must have took it down below freezing.

No cod to be had but loads and loads of coalies to keep the tugging on the line going ... but not big , all about the same size as the next pic and all went back . (often coming in two by two). lost count after the first ten. Still it was good to feel the tingle of the tug on the line.

made another friend at St Marys ... a seal that seemed curious (and had a liking for squid).

All in all a good run out to check all is well and blow the cobwebs away even though I didn`t get any cod out of it. No doubt the next trip out will be a more serious fishing hunt. :) :)

Nice to see you got out Norman I remember a trip similar to that last year with loads of coalies at St. Marys ...... HALF throttle ,what's that mean :D

at least you had a ride out and got rid of your cobwebs, popped down after lunch to see if you where about, lad in the boat yard said you had all ready gone

Aye bob sharp exit today ........ had to go home to warm up.

By the way the tides today were way off what it said in the book ....... well, the 2007 book anyway :) :) .... oooops good job it was just a run out and not targeting a tide/time ;)

77p!!!

That is a disgrace. Inverness bearing in mind the extra transport costs to get it there is 52p

Factor their overinflated fuel prices into the November hike and the RQ will be over £1.50!!

Luckily we've got huge tanks - full tanks will last us a year at least!!

Have already asked they guy that delivers heating and fuel oil to ours if he'd meet us on the quayside by spillers to fill up and he says no problem. 250 gallon rate is currently 47p for red.

Must of been great get out and blow the cobwebs away Norman, bring it on!!!!!

You can see whats going to happen here Mark, when we here your going to meet your tanker, there will be a flottilla of little boats following you with their jerry cans looking to refuel with you

have already given it some thought bob, half a dozen boats, every few weeks, would make it even more worthwhile them delivering. Alreadys discussed the marine deisel thing with them, they had no idea but will still supply red as is to whoever wants it.

as an alternative, I've the number of a company who deliver proper refined biodeisel at 80p a litre, min order is 200 litres

Great to see you out there Norman!

Still a bit quiet in the codling front, we only managed 4 between the three of us, Bert got the biggest (as usual) about 3.5lbs.

We had a run out to the ling wreck and the aquastar but nothing doing and the drfit was just too swift.

Still, it's cod & chips for tea on monday & the season has started :D

Norman well done on getting out mate. I am realising this cod game is a very seasonal thing. Never really thought about it until i started going out on boats.I see you had some type of lure for the coalies.
On WSF forum some lads have just been out on a boat at Whitby (sea otter 2) and were using runny down and squid. They had some nice codling-nowt massive but looked enjoyable.
I,m out on a couple of trips, one in June and the other in July.
Maggie May trip June and Sea Otter 2 in July. Trips organised by Viking King from WSF.
I,m really looking forwards to the trips but hope by then to be using jiggers.or shads.

Mick.

mick, the lures were just a couple of small muppets baited with rag and / or squid ....... just a run out session really as the codling havn`t arrived in numbers yet.

darren, give me a wave next time, whats the boat name?

Norm

Yes it can only get better from now on ! They are taking the fresh bait and if your in the right spot and the wind and tide are good (for a change) then its certainly STARTED:)................!!
Sleepless Friday nights ! up at 4AM now but soon it will be a 3am early alarm clock !.........................bring it on
What is with the weather is always blowing a gale ? on a Sat am !
Great to get a bend in the rod for a change ,it shows that i`m out of practice coz i thought the cod i caught was fighting like a much bigger fish((5lb`ish) esp the way the wind and tide was:eek:
Tune in this time next week to see if things have improved any !
Sorry for knicking your post Norm;)

nee probs bert it`s a joint report lol , I`ll try and get some breakfast sorted for next time ................... me stocks are down LOL :)

Norm
