Not really a catch report just a run out report.
Out on my own today, like to do this alone first day out of the season to check all is ok (and of course it should be anyway) to save panicking any crew just in case owt failed ........... LOL : but it didn`t.
Looked ok as I drove along the sea front at whitley this morning , just a slight hint of white tops but not bad since it was a predominatly west wind.
(how wrong I was it was blowing a blooming hoolie)
Managed to get out the lock in marina with a little bit of more care than usual since one of the lock gates had stuck but was able to squeeze out the width of a single gate ............... dont try it pansy ! you`ll be too fat
.
Off to the fuel pontoon ............. MY GOD £34 to fill up, most I`ve ever spent on fuel in one squirt. A combination of not refueling after last run out which was ages ago and constant running of engine and prop in marina at berth each weekend almost draining the tank along with a hike in the cost of deisel over the past 4 or five months (77p/litre at the moment ........ watch your wallet pansy)
Still, its great to be out again, met up with bert keith and kyle over a close in wreck ....... (their lines were almost horizontal in the drift and tide) ... Out of cabin to take the next pic and goodness it was cold.
,
Set off to St Marys (at half throttle bearing in mind the cost of the fill up - but that`ll wear off by a week or two
)
Again it was similar to that at the entrance to tyne, a howling searing west wind that was so cold the chill factor must have took it down below freezing.
No cod to be had but loads and loads of coalies to keep the tugging on the line going ... but not big , all about the same size as the next pic and all went back . (often coming in two by two). lost count after the first ten. Still it was good to feel the tingle of the tug on the line.

made another friend at St Marys ... a seal that seemed curious (and had a liking for squid).

All in all a good run out to check all is well and blow the cobwebs away even though I didn`t get any cod out of it. No doubt the next trip out will be a more serious fishing hunt.
