its okay you did not offend me.i dont mind wading through the s**t done it for year but i better not sell any or i would be nail to a cross in these parts, lol or i might just beat your brains in with my bat and take your cash anyway, lol only joking and take care mate

After reading this thread am so glad i dont give to hoots about peeler

same goes for me richy
if i get any crab it is from the rocks and there are no tyres there
so im not knicking anyones crabs

i wouldnt stick me mit in a tyre anyway
Agree mate
Like i said as well Graham, you can collect enough crab for your own personal use without wading through mud and mooching around in tyres

well in a way it does keep me fit mooching in traps, and also saves me from paying those prices the tackle shops charge, daylight robbery

you find a spot where the rocks are excellent for a few peelers!

you and a few like minded anglers collect crab on a collect and fish basis.

some one decides there's a few bucks in it and sets a 1000+ traps.

the rocks where you once collected enough to fish are now jack sh*t.

your told under a threat of violence touch the traps and suffer the consequence.

some one needs to explain that to me!

i have no problem with a guy setting a few traps for fishing bait but i'm not so keen when its done for profit.
50-100 traps is enough for anyone and if your not there by low water then i think they should be fair game.
this seems to have got out of hand.

can someone start a different thread cos this ones going a bit stale onc again

what about lining the inside of the tyre with foxes brush ,to make it all nice for the crabs and more comfortable for the crabber

BUT who will hunt the Fox

Theres a new thread within a thread LMCO

once the licence comes in that will sort the tyre wars out

hahahaha

will not stop me doing them have done for 20 years and will carry on doing them, lol just how they going to police everybody on the tyne the tees the wear and the blyth, they would need a lot of bodies. i will pay my licence fee if i have to.
come to think of it in the 30 plus years i have fished i have seen more argument and punches thrown and heard more threats to people casting over them etc than i have crabbing. but that dont count does it lads and dont deny it does not happen and what about the damage caused by angler setting fires etc place getting blocked of because people living around or working are getting abuse and told where to go but that dont matter cause all crabbers are nutters and love to threaten kids and best of all anybody who dares set foot on there turf. for starter you can only do them when you are there,i know i am not in them 2 tides a day 7 days a week so who is,lol

Red Rock i think you have taken the original argument out of context and used it for a wider rant. Most anglers on this site (imho a usually tolerant and good natured site) would agree with you regarding the casting, the abuse, litter etc and I do not believe there was ever an inference that people with tyres were "nutters". I think my concern about the over collection of crab is a real one and my argument that storing it away for future use has an adverse effect on the overall crab population and possibly the fish population. If I'm scientifically proven wrong I will hold my hands up. Until then I feel I have the right to express my opinion and concern.

i dont know about the crab population decreasing stores, all i can say is i still get the same amount out of my traps as i did 10 year ago infact more this year, lol for starters with the fish population on the slide they have less preditors and hence they will increase i would think and another fact is something that people over looking is all of the crab taken this time of year are male, the female dont peel till later.plus like i have said it is only may when the big peel is on and after that you struggle to get enough for your fishing as the water in the traps gets that hot the crab stay out,lol would you want to be boiled alive, lol anyway mate enough said and tight lines

sorry but i also forgot to add with the decrease of people fishing now due to the lack of fish which is well documented in the entries for comps etc and tackle shop closing down there is less demand for crab so hence nobody freezes over 300 crab anymore, like they used to in the past.so that can only but put less strain on the crab population.;)

Red Rock I think your points are logical and balanced but show the state we may well have reached. In particular:

"With the fish population on the slide" and

"With the decrease of people fishing now due to the lack of fish"

Perhaps we will soon have the healthiest peeler population in living memory and no worries about how many traps go in

but nothing to do with them once we've caught them.

how very true this could be, interesting though that lidl`s had velvet swimming crab for sale just before christmas, something that only a few years ago i had never seen sold for human consumption,so perhaps when the edibles have gone, the velvets have gone then the common shore crab may be considered worth eating ??

they already are. velvets are worth more in europe than brown crabs, and the fench have been eating shore crabs for years
