Fellow Kayakers !!

hi mate....we have a kayak....me and my son (aged 12) its a malibu 2xl (2 man)
we both fish off it...but mainly south of the tees.....we have been out a few times and think its great....a lovely stable yak....great to paddle but not as good as the usual 1 man yaks like scupper pro's or prowlers....we have kitted it out with fish finder, gps, and hatches also a anchor trolley.....but still need rod holders and a few bits and bobs....must agree with you its better to be out in a group for safety etc....main thing to have a vhf radio....and pfd of course.....

Yeah I'll be mainly going off the tyne and whitley bay areas,I'm looking at getting the prowler big game as they are ment to be very stable kayak plus very good reviews on them,and I'll have all the kit,ie..gps,fish finder,pdf,and vhf radio,which I need to get mesel on a course to be legal as such,maybe some of the lads can share any info on that.
I'd be happy to go out on my own if it was calm enough,as I am a quite a competent kayaker having done courses in the past thru the army,but always best in a group plus then you can have a good friendly banter with the lads,well maybe I'll paddle past you mate sometime if I feel fit enough to venture south ! lol

I go out around the area mentioned most weekends (Weather permitting) mainly blyth but had a good trip from st abbs recently. i live wallsend if i can help you in any way just PM me. you are right safety in numbers when kayaking till you get to know the ropes!

Theres around 7 of us get off Blyth alot weather permitting although not always together. Normally in morning at weekends. Some launches are organised through a site called Anglersafloat.
Dont rush into buying a big game until you have read the advice on the site. I have had a big game for 2 years and although very stable they are difficult to handle on and off the car. If your under 15 stone i would recommend a prowler 13 or similar which is easy to get on and off car and quicker in water.
local usernames to look for MT DT1 BIGCOD (WALLSEND) GEORDIE LOUGHMAN GRUFFALO SOUTHBEACH KEITH7937 BILLFISH NEIL (BERWICK) ALL FROM BLYTH EXCEPT BIGCOD AND NEIL.
Theres a few with kayaks in whitley too who regularly go out but not sure of details. Frazers shop may be able to help.

Thanks lads for all the info,its good to know theres a few on here,yeah sage I'll deffo do the VHF Course,I used to work on the trawlers so I know the correct voice procedure,which does help no end,yeah mallonpak I'll deffo be in touch and maybe sort something out.
Thanks MT2 for your info with regards to the big game,I've been reading up more on that kayak and as you said it is a big heavy kayak and I'm only 14 stone so I may struggle with it,and lugging it up the ramp in cullercoats I'll be dying by the time I get to the top !! now liked the look of the hobie revolution,dont seem to be that popular possibly due to to the price of it,but that MirageDrive system is something else,so I'm now going to try and get more feedback on this.
