gill net

best advice for this part of the world is don't bother, both for 'political' and practical reasons, political - people will hate you, practical - you'll catch bugger all, possibly a few mackeral in summer, unless you move in very close to places where people will be fishing from the shore (see reason 1 again!)

I've got, errr... 'a friend' that might have tried them once or twice, miles from anywhere a few hundred miles in a north westerly sort of direction. This 'friend' reckoned you need a bit of a tidal run, and some coast line that will attract fish that might be worth catching, they might even have been the odd salmon. this friend might have strung the net out up tide and rowed the boat down tide, and he might have sat on the drift with it for an hour, then hauled it purse fashion

there we're definitely no salmon in the net that might have belonged to minor members of the aristocracy, that never happened, and it never happened as it was getting dark either, and there were definitely no local chaps and a bottle of single malt on the boat at the same time either, and no one put anything fishy don their trousers later on as well

Aye there's poaching and there's poaching! If I was paying a huunert pund to fish a salmon river I'd be after your bollocks and your eyeballs - if I was living next to a salmon river and the bairns needed new shoes I'd be hoying toasters connected to the mains into the odd holding pool. Obviously I'm talking shoite but better than not talking on a a forum otherwise it would be empty.

Thanks for your time - too much chocolate, oh and the beer festival at washington AC has made me drunk. Batsrards

does any body use gill nets found one on my boat r they any good and whats the best way to fish them

They make very good fire lighters on bonfire night....they do not rot so make very good ground stabilisers when laying a patio or building a high rise office block.

The legal implications would need some serious studying before you put it in the water..and be sure you read the right set of laws cos they differ a lot from the north of the tyne to the south. Check out the NESFC website and the NSFC website for the relevant bylaws depending where you plan to use it.

The mesh type and size has to be right. The positioning, the hobby license, the mesh size and the mesh type....seriously..... bin it!!! Or be prepared to be baffled by legal jargon because the whole sytem is setup for commercials and to discourage a "hobby angler".

If you enjoy a laff. take it to the banks of a salmon river ...tie it to a tree and let if run out downstream....Then ring the poaching hotline for the EA....sit back and watch the entertainment.

Cheers#Dave
