best advice for this part of the world is don't bother, both for 'political' and practical reasons, political - people will hate you, practical - you'll catch bugger all, possibly a few mackeral in summer, unless you move in very close to places where people will be fishing from the shore (see reason 1 again!)
I've got, errr... 'a friend' that might have tried them once or twice, miles from anywhere a few hundred miles in a north westerly sort of direction. This 'friend' reckoned you need a bit of a tidal run, and some coast line that will attract fish that might be worth catching, they might even have been the odd salmon. this friend might have strung the net out up tide and rowed the boat down tide, and he might have sat on the drift with it for an hour, then hauled it purse fashion
there we're definitely no salmon in the net that might have belonged to minor members of the aristocracy, that never happened, and it never happened as it was getting dark either, and there were definitely no local chaps and a bottle of single malt on the boat at the same time either, and no one put anything fishy don their trousers later on as well
