hi Thinking of taking up beach fishing in the winter as a way of keeping my fishing going can anyone suggest a good rod/reel combo, alreday have a bass outfit but want something that can bang out a good distance (with a bit of practice!!)

welcome to the board sidesaddle :D I think if your on a budget the r/t accelerator coupled with either a slosh 20/30 would be a good buy if you have a little extra cash I would go for a 14ft century kompressor wr300 (£250 in ID fishing)and maybe a penn 525 super mag

What sort of ground are you going to be fishing? Rough ground, Mixed ground, clean ground or do you want an outfit that will cover all 3?

For rough ground I would suggest the Century Kompressor WR300 (mines the 13ft and I love it) and either a 535gs or a slosh 30. At the end of the day lots of people will give you different advice on the rod based on their preferences (as I have), but most will agree on the choice of reel.

Best bet is to try and get your hands on a few of the rods if you can and give them a cast. :D

For what it\'s worth the WR300 feels a lovely rod but very stiff (never used one). A bit like the old Apollo which I love for the rough stuff but I prefer something a bit more forgiving for a bit more general use. For this I use Conoflex Nemesis Plus SLR. It\'s suitable for the rougher ground but doesn\'t feel overpowering with lighter work.
