can anyone help as i would like to know if anyone can advise me of good places to try and catch fish over this winter period. i am originally from shields but now live in sunderland i have fished shields pier the groyne the small beach and also around seaham. but my biggest cod is only 5 and a half pound from the blocks on shields pier. i dont mind beach, cliff or pier fishing. like i say i havent been in a couple of years and i am a little bit out of touch, although this website is excellent for information.

cheers lads

5 and a half pound is an excellent start mate... if you want to learn the best way imho is to join a local club there you will find fellow anglers that have fished the local marks for a long time and know the area like the back of there hand.

I was out doing my homework yesterday, I had walk along the cliff's at shields and marsden, found a few spots that look promiseing, which I will be trying in the very near future.
