can you catch them all year and is there any hot spots around whitley bay tynemouth.would i get them down the side from the fish quay or round the old wooden jety(near the middens)

I had one about a pound & a half off Blyth pier last night........first one for ages but no good for my club match lol!

iv had them from blyth pier too, on both sides near the end very close in almost under rod tip, hope this helps

need to find where i can get them close in on lrf gear(1 to 5 gr rod) so only flickin out a 2 or 3 gr jig head, might try in the harbour at blyth and shields fish quay

i was fishing in a match the other week on tynemouth peir on of the lads cought a canny size one. a bit of a pain when you cant weigh them in lol

had quite a few on the end of shields pier just down the side of the wall. even had a couple when just flicking a shrimp rig about 5yds out when after launce.

any reason why you are targeting granny fish ,they dont weight in club matchs ,a lot of anglers dont like handling them but they are safe and not harmful if handled carefully, fish quay and rubber factory used to throw some big ones up to two pound. davy.

Whats a Granny fish???

Short-spined sea scorpion; sure they've got lots of other nicknames....

Ugly looking critters out of the water, quite bonny when they're swimming around. As Davy says a lot of people think they're poisonous but they're not - just damn spiky & need a bit of care when handling, or get them off with a disgorger.

tynemouth pier would be your best bet ,guarnads, weavers, lemon sole common sole ,tadpole, dogfish, red mullet, dragonets, eels pouting, bass, hagfish, all been cauight last few years.you would have a better chance using baits like rag or lug . davy.
