greatest angler of our time ??

an ubelieveable fact about Alec, he has packed in sea angling and does nothing else but fly fishing, never thought I would see the day he stopped sea angling

Shocked about that alan heard rumours about it but didn't believe it. Met him once about 10yr ago when I was a junior fishing a newbiggin match, he spent about an hour helping me out with bait presentation and rigs. Very nice bloke and top angler

3 names...

Willy Morton of Alnwick ASAC...The bloke is still young enough to remember the days you walked in front of a car with a red flag, yet moves over the rocks like a mountain goat. Keeps his tactics simple yet still challenges for the club title every year.

Andrew Stanton again of Alnwick ASAC, sadly no longer sea fishes but was an inspiration when I fished the club. His dedication to the sport at the time was second to none and he nearly always won the club title until the next guy came along.

Anthony Gibbeson of Alnwick ASAC... Great guy and could catch a fish in a bath tub. Reads the tides and conditions like Russel Grant reads Astrology

Jim Dobie has to be up there with the best, 12 open wins in one season. He has won open competitions consistently for many years at many different venues

Trev (codseeker) always seems to catch when nobody else is and always manages a doubler, Worth mentioning John Stead and Chris Hossack also :)

the greatest angler of my time was me dad he taught me to fish and i've never looked back

i have to agree john is a very good angler he's my uncle, him, my dad and granddad taught me every thing i know

Always looked up to Geoff king. Very knowledgable angler learnt a lot of marks and fishing info from Geoff from my burradon days and he's still on form in the opens and sea league.

Without being disrespectful to the older anglers who are a million times better they also had marks that we cant get to and a decent amount of fish in the sea my granda has caught more and biggwr fish than me using worse gear and worse bait. So in my eyes its impossible to compare fishermen from the past to present because of this

Yeah he is highly spoke of by a lot of people and quite a few lads i work with
he always does well, he won the S.A.M.F masters back in 1997 and won various opens and matches but he's a bit knackered now with his back after an operation its still not much better but he still fishes now and again, mainly with light line and light rods but still does his winter fishing when conditions are right

Only one mention for jim dobie :o

Hes the best around these shores, easily
